Product Description The landmark documentary that sparked an international movement to 'Free the West Memphis Three', PARADISE LOST investigates the gruesome 1993 murder of three eight-year-old boys and the three teenagers accused of killing them as part of a Satanic ritual. From real-life courtroom drama and clandestine jailhouse interviews to behind-the-scenes strategy meetings and intimate moments with grief-stricken families, acclaimed filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky were granted unprecedented access to all the players involved, capturing the events as they unfolded. REVELATIONS delves deeply into the shocking aftermath of the trials, updating the story seven years after the murders. With Echols on death row and Baldwin and Misskelley serving life sentences, PURGATORY picks up the story and reexamines the horrifying crime with fresh insights that only the passage of time can provide. Facts are reexamined, new evidence is revealed and new suspects are scrutinized.Together, these films tear the lid off a notorious murder case and create a portrait of the American justice system that is at turns terrifying, heartbreaking and mesmerizing, ultimately demonstrating the power of cinema to effect social change. Captivating and powerful - Get this set while it's still available
I've yet to watch the bonus disc from this amazing set, but I have to say that the three movies were some of the most captivating and powerfultrue-crime documentaries I've ever watched. My opinion of the WM3 (West Memphis Three) kept balancing; Did they really commit these horrible child murders? Could they have? Did they even have a motive? Was the MO really the one presented by the prosecution in the original case against them? And what about the reliability of many (if not most) of the witnesses? Or were they framed by an unreliable, opportunistic and self-serving justice system that botched an inquiry, needed scapegoats to save face, and, on top of it all, wouldn't hesitate to give them life in prison without conclusive evidence (and with much conflicting, hidden or false evidence to boot), even sending one of them to death row? This is a scary portrait of the American justice system. Watch this and American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson (an excellent dramatic series by the way) to get two very different illustrations of just how bad justice can sometimes be served and influenced by outside considerations. If you haven't seen the Paradise Lost Series (and the also excellent West Of Memphis, which should be seen as a complement to this series), I won't spoil it any more than that, but my judgement is that they all are highly recommended. Case closed!

"Inferno" Level 5
I purchased this CD to cover a lesson on Juvenile Justice. I played the first CD for students and they were totally engaged in the sequence of events. It shows how these 3 teenagers were convicted because people in the town didn't like them. In the second CD it shows them grown up and how they are continue to state that they are innocent, but nothing gets done . The 3rd CD shows how the story got to be heard by Hollywood actors, like Johnny Depp and others. They get involved and invest money in the case and the Memphis Three are acquitted of the crimes committed. I thought it was well documented, students really respond to the story.

The Full Trilogy of Documentaries And TONS Of Bonus Footage
For anyone that either already knew about the Robin Hood Hill Murder Case / The Saga of the West Memphis Three OR is interested in social injustices, this trilogy of documentaries is by turns compelling, heart breaking and hopeful. The three movies span the 18 years of dramatic twists and turns that these tragic events occurred in. The bonus footage, including interviews and also stuff that didn't make it into any of the movies is not strictly necessary, but offers some additional and valuable insight into all the players involved, from the parents of the three boys that were so horribly brutalized, to would-be suspects, to the men who literally have grown up in prison.Anyone who watches this trilogy is bounds to be moved by the utter miscarriage of justice depicted within.Lastly, if you find that you want more information about this case or these events, I'd strongly recommend reading Devil's Knot by investigative journalist Mara Leveritt. She did a thorough job of compiling the facts into a comprehensive narrative.

and Justice for all?
Paradise Lost is every bit as powerful as it was in 1993: A gripping tale of sadistic murder in the backwoods of Arkansas, prolonged courtroom drama, followed by three wrongful convictions, and a seemingly endless list of potential suspects that might be the real killer. Paradise Lost asks all of us to stand up and be counted for Justice. The Revalations(disc3) provided are far from adequate, and leave us with in a rather hollow, unsettled state. The extras disc included in the set provides us (at last) with some possible answers and a modicum of resolution For Paradise Lost fans, this set is a "must."Bruce Sinofsky and Joe Berlinger are two of the finest documentary film makers that America has produced to date. And the Paradise Lost Trilogy is certainly their finest work: If you missed the actual events, or the original airing on HBO, don't miss this collection! the West Memphis Three are all free today.

The first of the trilogy I watched with my oldest son. He was impressed so I got the trilogy. I remember when the murders occurred. Having grown up in Memphis I felt there was religious bias against these boys. Memphis is sometimes called the City of Churches and I always felt it should have been City of very biased churches. Everyone should know this entire story. Especially people who live in ultra religious communities.

Thumbs up for Berlinger & Sinofsky
A very good documantery abot the perils of judging a book by it's cover and a legal justice system gone astray. The three films prove that human failure is everywhere possible, but that in certain fields it proves disastrous for all people involved. They also make you think about capital punishment (I'm pro, not against), but if the state ends a persons life, their should be no doubt about if his guilty or not. And as you can see in these movies, the circumstances under which the three were convicted where far from clear. So well done Mr. Berlinger and Mr. Sinofsky for helping these three individuals for getting, at long last, their well deseved freedom.

A must see for all!
An amazing miscarriage of justice. This is like a modern day Salem witch trials. The parents of one of the murdered boys actually says, "You can look at them and tell they're guilty.". " I mean just look at them..... they look like punks.....they look like punks.". I've lived in the south for more than 20 years and I can say from experience, that ignorance reigns supreme. The West Memphis Three lost 18 years of their lives because of prejudice, ignorance, and abuse of power. Tragedy on all sides. I love that Damien and his wife Lorie, left Arkansas, moved to New York City, and never went back.
