Extension Activities: More Ways to Play and Learn: Demonstrate to the child how the blocks connect. Place all the blocks in a row. With the child, count the number of pieces. Repeat until the child is able to count them independently. Ask the child to sort the blocks into groups by color. Have the child identify color and count how many there are in each group. Count how many groups there are. Play a matching game by finding blocks that are the same size and shape. Alternatively, pick a block piece and ask the child to match your block shape. Assist the child in identifying the different shapes of the blocks. Take two blocks of the same size and shape and have the child connect them together. Introduce the word "whole." Demonstrate "half" by pulling the block pieces apart. Ask the child to assemble several blocks together. Now add one more block to the bottom of the assembled blocks. Explain to the child the concept of "under". Do the same and place a block on top explaining the concept of "over". If the child is unfamiliar with these concepts, physically move the blocks into position and explain the concept.
