This compact surge protection solution fits alongside standalone equipment, takes up minimal space, and is perfect for AV, security, and computer systems that are installed outside of a rack. Featuring Advanced Series Mode surge elimination technology, the SurgeX Standalone product line provides premium protection for sensitive equipment that relies on audio and video performance. Its patented power protection technology is non-sacrificial and eliminates surge energy up to 6,000 Volts, without producing harmful side effects such as ground contamination or common mode disturbances that can degrade the performance of AV systems.

Top notch.
I wanted the best. I searched the forums and the facts. this is the one I decided on. It costs more than the not-to-trustworthy stuff you see at hardware and department stores, but the best has it's price. There are more expensive models. I like the ones that are rack mounted, but this floor unit will do fine. With all the expensive equipment I have, I reeally can't afford to take any more chances here. the place I live has terrible electricity problems. And it is made much worse from a bad roommate. The roommate has tripped the circuit breaker hundreds of times because he can't understand that the house circuit is low amperage and that heating elements use high amperage. He keeps trying to iron his shirt, bake bread in the electric oven instead of the gas oven, heat up tea in the microwave, and use the George Forman grill all at the same time, hundreds of times, over and over and over, for 7 years straight now. So the electronic equipment here has had many catastrophic failures coasting me thus far around $1800 in repairs. The bad roommate has never once even paid for one dollar of the damage he has caused. My equipment will definitely be protected from the research I've spent a lot of time on.So far all is good. I really like the fact that these ones are made from non-sacrificial components, and have never been known to fail. Thank god SurgeX is available. It will save me thousands in repairs and lost production.

but I love my stereo gear and purchased what I thought was ...
I purchased a SurgeX SA-966 to protect my stereo from power surges caused by lightening. In the first small electrical storm this year, the SurgeX box intercepted a power surge that actually turned on my stereo amplifier! Thankfully, there was no damage.I have two other $20 power strips hooked up to our home computers that completely shut the power down in the same storm and I had to manually push the reset button to restore power afterwards. There wasn't a lot of explanation online about how SurgeX actually works for someone without an engineering background, but I love my stereo gear and purchased what I thought was the best protection money can buy. Less than a year later, I now have zero confidence in SurgeX and wish that someone at the Company could explain to me how in the world this occurred.

expensive but seems to help my situation
I live in an area where the power conditions are poor. I get constant fluctuations on incoming voltage, and when my AC kicks off my AVR UPS sees the change so it is constantly trying to correct the voltage level, probably killing the life of my batter in the process. After connecting the SurgeX my UPS is more stable and I notice less spikes, so I assume it must be doing its job. Your mileage may vary. I have to also note that I live in an old house where there is no earth ground to the wall outlets. I hope this does not affect the unit's ability to condition power and stop surges.

I feel safer having bought this.
I don't know squat about electricity except that it feels scary and hurts when it's out of control, can make popping sounds and can turn a plug outlet into a dead zone. So I have no business telling you anything technical about the SurgeX. But, I thought I would tell you why I bought it.I was looking for a surge protector and was impressed with the reviews of this one Accell D080B-015K Powramid 6-Outlet Surge Protector with Dual USB Charging Ports - 1080 Joules, 2.1A USB Output, 6-Foot (1.8-Meter) Cord, Black, UL Listed I was reading all the reviews and came across a review titled "A Classic example of form over function" and read one of the most intriguing "articles" / reviews on the topic. I took what the reviewer said to my electrician who said the facts were sound but thought it was overkill. So I overkilled it and bought this. I Love it for the idea of what it is doing. Essentially, I'm putting a lot of faith that these things are doing what we are told they are doing. But I don't know anything about cars and rely on them to work as I'm told. So, I hope that helps you, I want to buy one more.

Glad I spent the money!
I am so happy with the SurgeX SA966! Thanks to other Amazon reviewers who helped me decide to go with SurgeX products.Since purchasing it, we have had several power outages and power spikes. The SurgeX has performed beautifully. All our expensive electronics are safe, as is the SurgeX. We have a LED HD TV, a DVD/VHS recorder/player, wireless printer, ethernet, cable box, and a clock plugged into the SurgeX. The SurgeX is plugged into an outlet that is not grounded. It has never made a sound or even felt warm. Wonderful product! If you deal with power spikes, or have an old home that does not have grounds where you wish to plug in electronics, the SurgeX is well worth the price.

Top quality company and a solid product!
Great solid product, that comes very well packaged. I guess this is one of those products that you are only going to know if it does NOT work, but it seems like it took take a heck of a volt. What I can say its this company is top notch and awesome to deal with, if only all companies were this great. Based on my dealings with them there is no doubt in my mind that this equipment is top notch. I've got a lot of expensive medical equipment plugged into mine and I'm super confident in this.

Very nice - just plug it in
Very nice - just plug it in. Protects my computer stuff. Well worth the price as I cannot afford downtime. Even though everything is backed up in the cloud it would be a real pain to recover from a power surge. The power seems to be unstable here and there are electrical storms almost daily during the summer. I like that the product is made in the USA and initialed by the assembler and inspector. The only think to consider is whether this model at 8 amps is adequate or if you need the next model up at 15 amps and another $200.
