Misinformed and inaccurate
It took me a while to get to this book as I had purchased a lot of engineering books lately. Glanced through the section on compression and found the author explaining noise and breathing or pumping in that chapter inaccurately and providing technically poor explanations in my opinion. I'm surprised to find Focal Press printing this book without vetting it through! Not recommending this book; spend $47 bucks on another good book instead!

Mandatory
This book is an incredible companion. It's needs an update! It's already 11 years old and misses so much. One sentence in particular dates this entire book: (in reference to autotune) "The lifespan of this effect is likely short." Clearly this misses the mark by a long shot. I am not advocating autotune, but in reality it is more prevalent in popular music than what the author is stating here.

Terrific
Explains every concept well and starts from the very beginning to boot. Very accessible material, all easily understood and every piece patiently explained so that it unfolds gradually.I wish the book contained a DVD or CD of sound samples so we could play the before/after FX... there is an accompanying website that tries to provide this but it's not very comprehensive... Also in the time it takes to cue up the sample (buffering etc) the before/after is easily lost in the delay.
