Wonderful!
I love this scroll frame and stand. It is sturdy and well made. I love the versatility of it, that I can use it with or without the stand, and adjust the size of the working area from 9 inches up to 12. For those with a more ample lap who are worried whether it will fit over yours, the inside measurement of the stand is 19 inches. It takes a little fiddling with it to figure out what works best for you, but once you do, just tighten it up (easy to do) and you're set. It was easy to put together, despite the mostly Russian (?) directions. The frame holds the fabric securely with only the clips. I highly recommend!

Sturdy but not obvious
I like the poplar wood. It holds the fabric well. It is easy to use. But not at all obvious how to use. If you are used to holding the piece in a circle frame then you find you flip from front to back all of the time. Flipping from front to back of this holder has you flipping this whole thing around. Finally, you figure out to rotate the frame around the pivot that does not tighten. Oh! Second, how do you reach from front to back? So mount the piece to the side. There are myriad items like this that you have to figure out with no instructions. Not a big thing but until you figure them out this holder is annoying and cumbersome. Something to remember.

You MUST sew your canvas onto the frame!
Although the instructions are in Russian (!!!), this frame is easy to construct the steps are illustrated with pictures. The frame is readily adjustable and sturdy. I love that I can use it while sitting on the sofa or in a chair. There are plastic clips that can be used to attach your canvas into the frame, but they do not work well. Instead, you must sew both ends of your canvas to the frame. Once you've done that, the frame works perfectly, and you can roll up your canvas as you make progress. I am very happy with this purchase.

Well designed and versatile ~ Highly recommend it.
I love this product! I enjoy doing cross stitch while watching television. I have developed a back problem which requires me to sit with my back against something in order to minimize the pain. This is the only cross stitch/needlework frame that has allowed me to do needlework while having something to support my back. It took a bit to figure out the configuration to make it work but we did. I was able to transfer the needlework I was working on to this frame and continue working on it. I can move it to a table and work and I can sit on our couch and work on my projects. Both locations work equally well. Thank you for a well designed, versatile product. I highly recommend it to those who enjoy doing needlework.

Better than a hoop
It is better than a hoop, for sure, but I find it needs a crossbar at the base because it is super wobbly. Also, the knobs at the back and bottom for the stand won't tighten enough for it to not move. When this came, assembly was easy minus the two bottom pieces. They weren't drilled out all the way. Personally, I thought this was going to be a better product than it is based on the reviews. I would have saved up for an actual stand instead.

Loving my new lap frame!
I wish I had found this first while looking on Amazon. I've returned the previous lap frame as it wouldn't accommodate my canvas. I also returned a floor stand because it kept slipping & wouldn't hold the frame. Speaking of frames. All those thumb tacks were a pain to have to deal with...This frame will result in my needlepoint & cross stitch projects being a pleasure to work on!This lap frame is made of quality wood. Was very easy to put together. The clamps used to keep my canvas tight is a time saver. I love to sit on the sofa & be able to stitch as long as I wish!My thumbs have already had surgery due to arthritis. Holding a frame was so painful & uncomfortable. Now I look forward to relaxing while I enjoy by needlework. Thanks so much!Vickie

A flimsy piece of junk.
What I liked: It's better than holding the bare canvas in my hand. What I didn't like: It's flimsy. None of the joints hold and there are so many of them. I felt like I was fighting the frame so much that it was very frustrating. Not relaxing at all. It does not hold the canvas taut. There were rough spots that kept catching on my sleeve.I got so frustrated with this frame that I replaced it within the month. What a waste of money! Buyer beware!

Your back will thank you!
I've only had this frame for a couple of days but so far I'm wondering why I waited to get it for even a second! I just started doing needlework about a month ago and embroidery about 3 months ago. My 1st needlework projects were very small so I used an embroidery hoop. It just wasn't optimal because the getting the stiff canvas to sit well in the hoop was difficult at best. My next step was to get a needlework from, just a hand-held one. It worked pretty well but often put me in awkward positions and could be difficult to hold on to. I tend to work for hours at a time so after spending that much time my shoulders and back would be so sore & stiff. I finally decided to give this hands-free frame a try. Figured if it saved me some pain it was well worth the money. So far it really is worth it.It isn't a perfect design, there can be a bit of a wiggle at certain angles, just tighten things up a bit. Fortunately I'm short so I think I have less issue with that than someone who might need to use a higher extension. It was easy to put together. Everything fit where it should and the wood is smooth. A lot of folks mention the instructions are written in Ukrainian but they are in Ukrainian, Russian, and English, the English is all the way at the bottom so you have to look for it. Honestly I didn't really need the written instructions, the diagram was more than sufficient. It's easy to clip the canvas in and it holds tension as well as anything else I've tried. Due to the adjustability of it you can fit large and small work on it. Now and again you do need to tighten the screws but overall it holds on well. To flip the frame to get to the back you just loosen the pivot screws, flip it, flip it back and tighten, really not an issue. In short, if you do needle work of any sort I don't think you could go wrong with the Goncharoff Embroidery frame, your back will thank you.
