Q: Would this work on frameless sliding door? Gap between door and fixed panel is over 1" wide

If I understand your issue correctly this is not going to work. I used on an all glass shower door for a seal between the shower door and the side of the shower. It only is 5/32 on an in height, so it is not going to fill an inch of space. There are other gasket strips out there that should work, but you will have to do some searching. Steve

I'm using it exactly as you described. It works fine in my case. If the clearance is too tight then it will want to roll rather than slide, potentially peeling it loose.

Q: Can you use this to slide into a track?

If you leave the paper on the back you could slide it into a track. The other option would be to remove the adhesive with a strong solvent.
