Victors and Vanquished: Spanish and Nahua Views of the Conquest of Mexico

Valuable introduction to the clash of cultures from both sides of the major players
Written as a textbook for Latin American studies it is very informative, but quite short. Having the opportunity to read information from both sides, the Spanish and the Mexica or Aztec people it is very informative and enlightening. This was a time when two cultures previously unaware of the existence of the other collided and what came of it. Very interesting reading which served to increase my interest in the reading of some of the source material. This is a very good overview.

Who Owns History? Both victors and vanquished.
Excellent introduction to the Spanish conquest of Mexico from Cortes's sailing from Cuba to the final battle. Likewise, Schwartz has selected very good exerts from accounts by both the "victors and the vanquished." The Aftermath section is also good. I plan to use the book in my freshman college classes as a means of studying an important event in American and world history and as an exercise in using primary accounts. Most accounts of battles and conquests are from the winners' side only; this book is a refreshing difference.

Good
Very useful for those studying the period due to its primary accounts, otherwise it is/can be enjoyable to read first hand sources from contemporaries.
