If I remember these are 3/8 oz in weight. I've used weighted practice plugs like this many times for Tournament Casting events. When I've used practice plugs like this I'm using 4# test (Stern Monofilament) along with a very light extra light rod...My rods are made special for casting tournaments usage. I've gotta be honest with you these S/B Practice Plugs are sluggish when used per si with heavy line then what you might be using in fishing for bass, etc. My suggestion would be in a case such as this say using your normal rod/reel and # line set up is to go find an old bass plug (weighted for your fishing set-up) take off all hooks... and use that as your practice plug... Make a plug for practicing using your own set-up. Good Luck. It's fun to practice.

YES this float...Fun to work with. In fact I have some similar to these that you're asking about. I'm into "tournament casting" events. One thing you might want to keep in mind these "practice plugs" are better when using 4lb or 6lb test line. Easier to through. You might want to set up something in your back yard and have the kids cast to a target...get on old hoop from a Jarts game to cast to...or just make a 20 inch circle with rope at one end of the yard and mark off 25 yards and practice casting to your target. Then once you get good at the distance move back a few yards. I've even set up in my back yard the same little course...and also practiced casting to a water bucket or small waste paper basket. (Better okay that with mom, though) Good luck and have some fun...kids get use to casting like this...Then take them out and gear up for some real fishing'!
