The Hunger Games meets Twilight
If you are a fan of Chanda Hanh's Unfortunate Fairy Tales, you will enjoy this first installment of her new series. This book feels like the Twilight Series married the Hunger Games with a dash of Percy Jackson on the side. But, if you like those series, the combo should be satisfying.Parents (or readers in general) should know there is no swearing and romantic scenes remain somewhat innocent (kissing). There is a good bit of violence, with characters out against each other in violent completions and the description of an abusive family relationship. Descriptions are not graphic and shouldn't bother most. The boy/girl relationship is unhealthy in typical fantasy book ways. It might be a talking point if reading with a teen.Chanda Hanh's charcters are all very similiar. Girl from a troubled background who is stronger than she knows. Dark, brooding and grumpy boy that pushes her away to protect her, but is sensitive on the inside and somewhat obsessive. Not exactly a healthy relationship... Stalking and imprisonment... But, it's YA fantasy. If you read her other series, you will recognize Jared and Mina or Thalia and Kael. Same characters, new names and new story. There is a lot of imagination and creativity in this story. The pace moves quickly and the storyline is interesting and engaging. Chanda is a clever writer with a talent for adapting fairy tales and myths into modern stories. The book is fun, light reading and only takes a couple hours to get through cover to cover. It does have a somewhat abrupt ending that makes you feel as if a few chapters are missing. And, alas, no sequel until 2017.

Pleasant surprise, great adventure!
I have read other books by Chanda Hahn, so it should not have been a surprise, but it still was. This book was so good! The main character of the story is such an inspirational young lady who has already been through so much before thia story begins. She is one of the most unlikely heroines, but that makes her all that much better! I loved following her story as she interacted with and met new characters, watching them begin to like or respect her too as they got to know her. When I finished this book, I had to immediately buy the next one to continue her story!

One tough chick in an underland of monsters
This book was such a nice surprise. I'm not surprised it was a great read, I expect nothing less from Chanda Hahn. I was surprised because it was unlike any book I have read yet. It's very important for me as a reader to be engulfed in the author's world they created. I like being sucked in and I want to relate to the main character in some way. I was immediately transported into a dark alley with Kira and her not so great circumstances. I could tell she had great inner strength and I was excited to see the trials that came her way and how she would handle them.Kira is a tough chick, and she quickly surprises the underground world by showing them just how strong she really is! In a world full of monsters, Kira faces those fears head on and makes allies along the way.

I fell in love with this book
Two types of ways people will look at this book: Cliche or a gem that captured their heart. (Yes, I know that sounds cheesy, but whatever)I am the second, I fell in love with this book. I mean, I think I must have, I read it over 10 times in the same month.I loved the characters, the building story. the placement, the action, the characters interactions with each other, the character development, everything.Kindle version has a few grammar mistakes when it was first released and a bunch of people got 'upset' but I was able to read the book just fine anyway and understand what was going on.Main character Kira gets plucked from the streets of Portland and tossed into a world full of monsters and ends up having to compete in killer games for freedom... i bet your thinking "sounds like the hunger games wannabe..." No, sounds like a great entertaining read to me!Monsters, action, romance, humor... yeah, definitely a interesting read!I already read Un Enchanted series by Hahn and was really looking forward to her new series "Underland", and I must say I was not disappointed.Nice, easy, simple (yet not too simple) none dirty, read.Left at a huge cliffhanger, I can not wait for book 2!!!

Underland - what a trip!
If you've read the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan and combine that genre with The Maze Runner you get a sample of Underland. Kira Lier is a runaway from an abusive stepfather and a neglectful mother. Only person who inspires and encourages her will to survive and live is her dad, her Navy Seal hero. Killed in combat, Kira and her mom lost their world when Kira's dad passed. Kidnapped into another world of Greek Gods and other mythical creatures, sold as a slave, Kira begins to gain her identity and focus on herself and surviving this land under the Earth; where humans are the bottom of the food chain. Literally humans are used only for food. Multiple failed death attempts, Kira gains friends and a love interest in Zeke, a zombie who protects her but could eat her. Yeah Kira has a bit of fear but trusts Zeke. We meet Den and Chaz as this unorthodox group become friends. This book ends on a small cliffhanger that makes the reader realize that Kira has not gone home like Dorothy of Oz but is still in Underland.

She's done it again
Loved the new book from Chanda Hahn, it was different and creative. She has created a strong female character in Kira that you can't help but root for as the books go on. Looking forward to the next installment to find out more about her journey and the world of Underland. Definitely a great read from a great storyteller.

A secret society under our feet
A book for a younger audience. Hahns books still have a way of keeping you engaged. Well written and highly imaginative. Personally the story needs more depth and everything happens quite conveniently
