Great start and leaves you at a cliff hanger
A wonderful book to spend your weekend at home with:This is the first volume of a six (so far) part series chronicling the life of the Clifton family. This volume introduces the main characters: Harry, his girlfriend, Emma and her brother, and Harry's best friend, Giles, and various others that pop in and out throughout the series. In this volume, we follow Harry from his early teens to his graduation from grammar school (which in the US would be high school), which is shortly followed by World War Two.I made the mistake of starting with volume five, and then going back to the beginning, so it is easy to see how many of the conflicts Archer establishes in this volume set the stage for the narrative tension in the later books. I highly recommend reading them in order...not jumping around like me.I loved volume five, but this volume reads like what it is: a book used to introduce characters, relationships, and conflicts which will be more fully developed in later volumes. So in that sense, this is my least favorite of the chronicles. On the other hand, without this one, the remaining volumes don't work as well.

My new favourite, one of THE Best
I have never come across such intuitive way of storytelling as displayed in this book. There is a continuous flow in the story. The best thing I liked about this book was the way the scenes are portrayed from each one of their perspectives, of the ones bearing witness to any incident. Even though at times you may feel that the same story is being repeated again, as it is told from an other person's perspective, it doesn't at all bore you. Rather, I guess this would be my first book I couldn't put down since I started reading it. Another interesting point of Jeffrey's storytelling is that many revelations are not handed out to the reader straightforwardly, rather you can see that it is somewhat hidden in text. As a result, when such revelation is made, it gives one the feeling that one himself had known that is what was to happen, though that isn't true. It just adds up so much to the pleasure of reading this book. Mind you, all these good ratings over here are indeed true!

An old age family drama
The book begins with a description and perspective of the protagonist. This seemed slow to me, taking time to establish context and setting the scene, but later as other characters were revealed it picked up pace and turned into an interesting family drama. The conclusion would want a reader to grab the sequel, but may not be too compelling. I just missed the sense where it's impossible to stop turning the pages. It's a good book, not the most alluring though.

Cracker of a Read !!!
For Complete Reviews : BookReviewsFromHeart @Blogger .No doubt, Jeffrey Archer in himself is the definition of ' Pacy ' when it comes to Thriller genre and that's the reason I picked up the ' Only Time Will Tell ', an opening instalment of ' The Clifton Series '. The book was launched in 2011 & got an impulsive response on the day of launch throughout the world & even claimed the title of the best seller on the very day of launch in India. This epic tale is narrated majorly in 3rd form from the point of view of 5 different characters which are interleaved with each other till the very end but the focus remains the same, Harry Clifton. So the plot launched with the narration from the protagonist's point of view, Harry. Harry used to live in Bristol with his Mother's family & had been told by everyone that his father died in the World War I while fighting against his Majesty's enemies. Young Harry used to spend a major chunk of the day on docks with his uncle Stan with whom he used to have the same set of talks every day but his visits turned fruitful when he got the company of Old Tar. In school, Harry's potential to be an extraordinary student was first noticed by his headmaster & later the thought was second by Old Tar which later on was supported by many generous characters who wished to saw Harry reach new heights i.e to initially get into a prestigious high school following the dilemma to be the part of the finest grad college or the war against Nazi Germany while facing the ship of his relation sinking down . Set in the post-WWI era, Archer's masterful hands took readers on the journey that no one wished to end, leaving numerous questions in hopping mind.As expected, Archer had portrayed every single character in a unique way. Beginning with the protagonist, Harry who is embedded as a curious kid, mature more than his age and lucky enough to had some really good friends in life. Maise Clifton, Harry's Mom, had played the role of an ideal mother who worked laboriously to make sure that Harry's school bills would be paid on time, Now my favorite character, Old Tar who's not just a good mentor of Harry but also a good human being that only a few lucky ones could have . He smashed every possible thorn that could halt Harry's way to success.Giles Barrington, Son of a rich businessman Hugo Barrington, who is embedded as Harry's best friend and unlike Harry belongs to an influential family. His friendship directly / indirectly had rescued Harry on numerous occasions. Then comes Deakins, a nerd and the third Musketeer who's a scholarship student & stay glued to Harry & Giles in their thick & thin.Albeit the book is a page turner throughout the plot but act as Soporific pill on 1-2 stances. So ' Only Time Will Tell ' is a rip-roaring read with a wide scale of imagination that'll pull the strings of brain one by one as per Archer's standards.

Keeps you on your feet.
This is my first Jeffrey Archer read thought I bought Mighthier than the sword first and realised its the 5th of the volume. The story circulates around a boy named Harry Clifton. His mother,Maisie Clifton had her only fling before marrying Arthur Clifton. Arthur dies and Maisie raises her only child by herself and wishes to provide him with the best education. Old jack, another character plays a vital role in helping Harry climb up his ladder of success while sharing his wisdom and finding ways to help Harry. While things are going well for Harry, Hugo Barrington, Harry's best friend(Giles) father always showed contempt towards Harry while they his son and Harry both studied I school and college. Harry falls in love with Emma, Giles's sister, and plans to marry her only to find out the secret kept for years and that it could be the only reason to intervene in their innocent and binding love for each other. Read it to unveil the suspense.

Passionnant

My Number 1 Author!
I Don't say anything about the plot of this novel - just check it out! But when I read "Kain & Abel" back in the past I wanted to have more of him. It may sound strange, but: Archer's novels are not quite thriller, not quite family drama and not quite history novel, and yet, it's ALL of it! I never felt that satisfied in my whole experience of reading before. I usually have that weird moments when I can't decide: do I want to read thriller? Do I want to read horror? Or do I want to read classic? That's a wide spectrum! But Jeffrey Archer pleased me entirely, because his novels include nearly everything You can possibly want (even fantasy-novels use similar patterns)! So my (best) lesson is: You never can make anything wrong with Jeffrey Archer!I still don't know if I want to read the rest of the Clifton-Saga too, because I prefer single novels. But this book clearly encouraged me! Anyway, I have something I can go back to any time, and that's allways great!

Una storia raccontata bene
Mi è piaciuto moltissimo, e quindi nello spazio di un paio di settimane ho comprato gli altri 6 libri. Ne ho ancora due rimasti, li ho letti tutti di un fiato.
