Very Nice Pen in a beautiful Color
Very nice fountain pen. This metal pen seems to prevent the ink from drying better than the regular plastic-body Lamy pens. I also love the color!

Perfect!
You cannot beat a Lamy for the price in my opinion!

Pen is darker in real life.
The pen is darker and more saturated than it appears in the picture. Perhaps the anodization is different batch to batch, and perhaps the picture on Amazon is a bit desaturated. The pen I received is royal blue and the one in the image to my eye is closer to baby blue or sky blue.

Ordered a Lamy Al-Star but received what looks like a Lamy Safari
I'm very disappointed in this pen. I purchased an Al-Star because I wanted the aluminum body. I ordered what I thought was going to be an Al-Star Special Edition with gloss black finish. I had ordered a bunch of other stuff recently so I absentmindedly opened the package and inked up the pen with the included cartridge and started testing it when I received it today. That's when I noticed something didn't feel right. It felt too light and then I noticed that it looked exactly like the charcoal Safari my son was using across from me at the table. I suddenly realized that I had a Safari and not the gloss black Al-Star I ordered, even though the package says Al-Star. The package also says nothing about it being a Special Edition.Having recently seen info that counterfeit Safari's are a problem, I immediately started wondering if I could be a victim of a counterfeit Al-Star and Safari, or at least a dishonest seller. In any case this came in the blisterpack as shown here. I'm not sure if this is the normal for Al-Stars, but I have a feeling it isn't. I'm assuming that the Al-Star should likely also have the cardboard separator ring between the cap and body with the ink cartridge in the pen body, like the yellow Safari I purchased last year. This one didn't have either of those. As you can see the pen itself is definitely the matte finish of the plastic charcoal color Safari and not the gloss black with aluminum body and clear feed that is pictured on the item page and Al-Star's should have.My son's Safari didn't come from the same seller but now I'm wondering if the Safari he got is authentic as well as it didn't come in the same black box my original yellow Safari came in. Other than the box, examining his pen it passed all the counterfeit Safari check points and otherwise seems genuine. I used a video I found for Safari's on Youtube on how to determine if your pen is authentic. It was very helpful. This Al-Star fails on multiple levels for being an Al-Star, but passes most of the tests for being a genuine Safari. I have a feeling that both my son's Safari and this "Al-Star" are both genuine Safaris. However I'll never know for sure. I'm returning the Al-Star but keeping the Safari for my son as he really likes it and it writes well. I can say I'll never purchase another fountain pen or pen product from RM Outlet by Robert Mason Co. again. I just have too many doubts about them at this point to trust them. I think I'm just going to go back to only purchasing from trusted pen retailers on their sites. It's just too risky on Amazon. The few dollars I saved just isn't worth the hassle.

Behold! The Magnificent Lamy Safari Al-Star.
Let me start by saying that this pen is made out of aluminum AND DOES CONDUCT ELECTRICITY! I was given a quick shock the other day, not thinking about it, when I was using my Lamy Safari Al-star to fish a strawberry Pop-Tart out of the toaster.Besides that, this is a totally safe pen and I would highly recommend it to anyone with a shred of style and decency. The Lamy Safari Al-star is more than just another fountain pen, it is a philosophy. This utilitarian apparatus allows you to swap out the nib, barrel, cap... well, just about everything! It comes with a lifetime warranty to back this all up, which is great, as I often write my poetry in extreme conditions, in order to provoke feeling. All you have to do is send it on over Germany! Ideally you will have a back up, as you may occasionally find your pen partaking in a transcontinental journey for a little fix-me-up, and it will arrive back home as glorious as ever. The matte black body with a black clip is VERY STEALTHY. Upon glancing at my pen, people often ask me if I am in fact who I say I am, and not a secret agent. This is not uncommon in my line of work. Another stealthy advantage of the Lamy is that the nib is very quiet when it hits the paper. This might not be an issue for most people, but for gentlemen with sensitive eardrums such as myself, it is a godsend! Although you can get slightly cheaper fountain pens, they will likely leak, bend, or make terrible scratching noises as they besmirch your stationery and repress your creativity. I am proud to say that my Lamy Safari Al-star does not leak one bit! The only issues experienced with the Lamy have been due to the personal ignorance of your correspondent. The little ink window is not only adorable, it allows insight into the status of your ink cartridge. I would recommend either the Z10 or the Z24, unless you want to use one of the abhorrent disposable ink refills that the pen comes with. Now, I know what you are asking yourself and the answer is no: The Lamy Safari Al-Star will not fit an International ink cartridge, so don't even try it, you curious rascals! This is a slight downfall but it certainly does not diminish my love for this impeccable device.
