Over the years I've bought several different field notes covers, including the pricey one from Belroy. While most of them were nice, they all had the same (in my opinion) problem: they were all too big for a 3.5x5.5 Field Notes. Sure, they'd fit in there, but there was always a bit of extra room allowing the field notes to move around. THIS one is different. The Fan & Ran is a nice, THICK, cut of real leather and the dimensions are such that a 3.5 x 5.5" field notes fits nearly perfectly, with just enough room to allow the notebook to slide into place.Some people might want the extra room - maybe they use their field notes cover as a wallet (?), but I don't. I use this specifically to hold and protect my field notes and the Fan & Ran looks like it will do the job for decades.

Lovely, stiff leather with a nice grain that fits pocket-size journals like Field Notes and some off-brand ones I found on this site perfectly. I’d condition the leather on the outside with a little leather conditioner to really make its beauty obvious; it will age gracefully. Good buy if you need a durable leather journal cover.

You know what this product is, you slide in a field notebook sized book and you write. The stiff leather has a clipboard like effect that allows you to comfortably write on any surface. Stitching is neat and the overall product looks like perfect factory cutting. Main gripe is that the inner leather tends to stain field notebook covers but its dyed leather, its going to slightly stain and smudge stuff, especially when unsealed. Some sort of oil or wax sealer and the cover feels more substantial and doesn't smudge nearly as much

This has held up to being in my back pocket for the last few months without so much as a loose thread or a major scuff. However, it's worth noting that the finish applied to the leather did bleed a bit onto my notebooks, turning the first and last pages a light brown where the leather made contact. It also held a few cards in the sleeve without much hassle.

Bought both this pocket notebook size as well as the A5 journal size, and both are great for what they do. They both cover notebooks well with the added benefit of that nice, classic leather smell. The covers are thick, and this particular pocket sized cover will fit into my back pocket no problem. Perhaps it is a bit stiff, but I would need to use it for a longer period of time to really see if that continues to be the case or if that changes. It does it's job, and it does it well.One difference between the larger A5 size and the pocket size is the stiffness of the covers; the larger size seems stiffer than the pocket sized cover. This could be due to the size difference, but I'm not super sure. It does not bother me personally, but if that is something that could be concern I figured I would add that here too.

I keep this pocket notebook with me all of the time because I still write notes and make lists. It's rugged and feels right in your hand.

Going to be using this on a trip to Florence and Venice Italy in October with my fiancee.Want to be able to keep notes... itinerary...tickers. all together in something that is durable yet looks good.Researched online for days. Didn't want the pen ring to make it more bulky. Didn't need storage for my credit cards. Wanted a nice thin, durable leather journal cover.This was the perfect solution.The stitching on it Is well done. The leather is supple yet tough. The books fit in it nice and thin but not flimsy and fits in front pocket.It came in a beautiful box and pouch with a sticker saying that it was homemade.Price was right on as well as I wasn't about to spend $30 to $50 on this.All in all... Perfect. Don't hesitate to buy.
