Q: What direction should the "cloth" side of the filter face? (Outside or Inside?)

Q: Is this the same as a Top Fin "Element" filter cartridge?

I tried these in my Top Fin Enchant 3.5G tank. The two filters are similar in size but not exact. The Tetra filters will sort of fit, but not as intended - the tank’s filter brackets do not allow the Tetra filters to slide in correctly. You can put one end of the filter in a bracket, but the other end hangs out. This somewhat alters the water flow. All things considered, it still works but it’s probably not cleaning as well as it’s supposed to.

Q: what are the dimensions of the bags

Just received the medium size and they are actually 3” by 5”, I saw the manufacturer said they were some other dimensions but had to see for myself.

Q: on average how often should they be changed on a 3 gallon tank

I change mine every month. This prevents algae from forming in the tank and help keep your fish happy. But make sure you either use water conditioning drops or let the water you will be using to fill the tank sit for at least 48 hours. I keep three 1 gallon containers on the side so I can change my tank water every month. (Also, did you know that the water from your fish tank is great for your house/garden plants.)
