Okay book, could have been better.
The mc feels a bit similar to the mc of the authors first book (crucible something). The biggest disappointment with this book is that it turned into the travails and mental tortures of a not particularly bright kid growing into adolescence. The story and action are side stories. The mc basically has two opinions, one being the order that brought him up is good, and the other being the order is bad. The whole book basically is about how he flips back and forth between these two conclusions each bloody boring tedious page. The plot barely moves, what little movement there is, it occurs in the first chapter and the last.Hope book 2 will be a more competent effort, or this author will go into my “do not read” list.

Readable, but disappointing ending
The book worked as a kind of slice of life, coming of age tale. The protagonist was sympathetic and his short term struggles were engaging. One minor problem was that the subtextual character development stuff was kind of promoted to text. The hero spent a lot of time inside his own head, to the detriment of the external plot. The bigger problem was that none of the internal conflicts were resolved in a satisfying manner at the end of the book. It really feels like the hero is going to spend all of book two wrestling with the exact same internal conflicts, which were already getting old by the end of book one.I could be wrong, and the hero and the premise are interesting enough to give book two a shot, but I don’t know if I’m going to make it to the end.

Hooked me from start to finish!
Sixteen years ago, the necromancer queen died, and her island nation fell to the invading Order form the mainland. The commander of her bodyguard, a woman named Carred, is charged with finding the queen’s hidden heir and wait for the queen’s resurrection. Now a young man is about to take his chest to join the Order, a group of sorcerer-knights who occupy Niyas, protecting the colonization that is taking place. Rooting out the rebels led by Carred and suppressing the demonic and necromantic practices of the locals, they see themselves as bringing the civilization of their god to these lands. And Anklas is eager to finally join them. But Sareatha, a fellow knight-trainee, provides temptation that he must avoid. A native, she clings to her people’s tradition as she’s forced to abandon them. Little does Anklas know what awaits him.Incursion was an excellent start to a great fantasy book. I was hooked from the start, and enjoyed every moment of reading it. While it’s not a standalone series, that just means there is more to come. The magic system is great and I look forward to more of it. Action is vivid and at times brutal. The story pulls you along, having you ask questions as what is really going on.This was a great story. I highly recommend it.

A fantastic new book in the story of Wariya!
This was the perfect start to another series my one of my favourite authors. Set in the world of Wariya like his other books (Revenant Winds, Shadow of the exile and more), this follows Anskar. Anskar isn't human, but was raised to be a knight in an organization that looks down on his kind. As familiar as this felt at the start, the story rapidly evolved into something unique. Although devout and determined to be the best knight he can, Anskar rapidly begins to see that his organization and those within aren't as pure and good natured as they claim to be. I don't want to go too much imto the actual story for fear of spoilers. The story was well written, and sucked me in. The action was fast paced and intense. The characters were deep, and well fleshed out.Prior knowledge of the other books isn't required as this works well as a stand alone.I really loved this book, and I can't wait for more.

Brave, Brutal, Gritty
This book is a fictional tale of a colonized land. The author does a superb job taking his storyline about the Necromancer Queen and weaving in the playbook for forced colonization. We see events unfold through two children strategically plucked and raised by the colonizers. We also are given a peek into the struggles of a freedom fighter. The author also does a great job with monsters. I was scared 😨 ! I recommend this book for older teens and adults who are sword and sorcery fans. For those who get queasy over a little blood - BEWARE - there's a lot of killing in this book. I highly recommend Incursion as a summer read. I'm looking forward to Book 2. Enjoy.

Good Book
The author did a good job of leading us by the nose until the end with a pretty big reveal. I wasn’t a big fan of one of the side characters so that did cause me to skim over a additional POV then I should’ve. Overall it was well written. Definitely will read book two.Rating: 4/5Cover: 4/5Narration: NAFavorite Line: Absence breeds fondness, they say, and I’d testify to the truth of that.

Great read…superb world building…worth your time
This was a great book. The world it takes place in is well developed and the characters are diverse and unique. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am downloading the next one right now. And after all, doesn’t that say it all? 😀

Have to. Read
This book was a great first book that has a good story line with magic and adventure. The characters where built well and was interesting to read their internal conflicts and how they grow or may grow. I'm look forward to next book to see what happens between knights and the dawn/dusk/dark tide battles

Fabulous!
What a great enthralling read. Captivating characters. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. As good as Crucible of Souls if not better.
