Harder than level C
We picked up the level C book titled Pug and it was easier for my six year old to read than this level A book. So the reading levels don't make sense to me. This book had short and long vowels, whereas Pug only had short vowels. This book had more words overall than Pug. This book's harder words were easier to figure out from the illustrations without having to decode them. So this was not as good at enforcing phonetic decoding than the book Pug. Overall it was a cute story about kids playing with a cat instead of letting it nap, but if Pug is level C than this book Big Cat this book should be level D. The leveling just makes no sense.

A simple, engaging beginning reader
Big Cat is a simple, beginning reader that makes kids just starting to read feel successful. While the words are simple, the book tells an engaging story about a cat through the words and high quality pictures. While a level A book, it looks and feels like a "real" book, making it popular among my 1st grade students.

Not as good as I see a cat
My son loves these books, he does prefer I see a cat which is the same level. He finds it a lot easier to "read" what the photo is saying on that book. This one is still pretty good tho :)
