A spell has been slung over me whilst reading this book.
Wow! I went into this book thinking that it would be a light, quick read, not really expecting a lot to be honest with you. What I did not expect was to be woven under the spell that this tale and the author tells. That wow is a good wow, it's an awesome wow, it's a 'I want more of this series now' wow! I mean I fricking loved this book! I feel like I can't sing it's praises enough, or the authors for that matter. When an author manages to get you so deep into a book that you forget everyone and everything else around you (even the need to pee!) then that's when you know you're reading something special.I've never actually read any books by Amy Sumida before, so before you start thinking that all that gushing must mean I'm her biggest fan and must know her somehow, well it doesn't. I actually discovered this book through the Kindle Scout programme (which I think is a great way to discover new authors) and voted for Kindle Press to publish it, which viola they have. The Last Lullaby is more than a decent enough book in my humble opinion. It's got a cast of characters that make you feel like they're your friends. It mixes many different gods of mythology, demonology and anything else you can think of. But it doesn't jumble them up so it's confusing, they're all given their own place in this world that Amy Sumida has created. The main character, Elaria is the perfect heroine for me. She's spunky, she swears, she gives as good as she gets, she's funny, she's strong but she also recognises her own weaknesses. I loved her and she lead the book really well. She has a strong and funny friend, she has an old lover in the background who she doesn't remember and she has one hell of a hot, alpha leading man. I'm not naming any names here as I don't want to give any spoilers away but this cast of characters all give this book it's enchantment. The world building is also well done in this book and I really love the twist that the author has put on the fae and their courts here, it works really well and in fact I want to know more about them all. This book is a definite five stars from me and I really can't wait to read the next book in the series. I also like the fact that the author hasn't ended this book on a cliffhanger, whilst I actually don't mind them I also feel that not every book needs to end with one and this was a book that ended perfectly. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This is one brilliant book! I have read Amy Sumida's books before so I know what a great writer she is. I normally try to wait until there is more than one book in a series because of wanting to read the next, but I gave this a try.The main character was brilliant. A spell singer. She is fun, she is feisty, she has guts and she can sing people to their deaths if she wanted to, but she doesn't unless she has to. She is an assassin for hire but can just as easily sing them to a better life. All of a sudden she is supposedly the hope of the fairy Kingdom along with a prophecy.Cannot wait for book 2 :)

Spoilt by a glaring error
So far this is a very readable tale and I am interested to see how it finishes, however I couldn't read any further without expressing my irritation at a silly mistake. If Banning met Fortune in 1657 why are they dressed in Elizabethan costume, when Elizabeth I died in 1603? This is an easy enough detail to research. The glaring mismatch of times jars horribly and makes the "willing suspension of disbelief" necessary to enjoy a fantasy or paranormal romance very difficult.

Myths coming to life
I received this book after nominating it in Kindle Scout, and boy am I glad I did!I'd never heard of this author, so would never have found her books otherwise, but I couldn't put this book down! The first part of the Spellsinger series was so extensively detailed, from the perfect songs to go with the battles, to the gods and kings of magical myths. It's a must read for anyone who likes true magic, and wants to be drawn in to a story with a 'real' background!

Wow, another Amy Sumida book that quickly entraps you with strong characters and story line. The only issue I have with this book, it's finished and the next when is still being written. No pressure Amy.
