What in the world did I just read?!?!?
Yeah, so I think my issues with this book must be from some kind of cultural disconnect. Nothing the heroine in this book does would be deemed appropriate or even competent in my community. I am a Black woman so arson, stolen identity, breaking and entering, etc are really not an option for me and society doesn't really allow us to get away with being morons, no matter how funny we may be. (To be fair, this is not just an issue with this book. Apparently, according to books these days, being a hair away from mentally competent is attractive to billionaires.)That being said, it WAS very funny. I found myself laughing out loud at numerous scenes, despite myself. I would LOVE, LOVE, LURVE to read an actual story that wasn't completely ridiculous (but had the same playful tone) from this author. There was not one single thing in this book that made sense but you know what, I'm still a fan, Ms. Jones. I would even recommend someone else read this... as long as they have realustic expectations and don't expect a well written storyline or character development.

One Day Must-Read
It's been a VERY long time since I've picked up a book I couldn't put down. I believe the last book I read in a day was a Nora Roberts novel. This book is on THAT level.Jones tackles the not-so-simple art of writing a TRUE rom-com and pulls it off BEAUTIFULLY. The characters are quirky and real enough that you can, quite often, imagine yourself saying a lot of the same outlandish things with your own friends. The romance is sweet EXACTLY when it needs to be sweet and SPICY (OMG, SO SPICY) in ALL the right ways. The author makes her satirical use of EVERY romance trope out there (seriously, I think she hits ALL of them) seem effortless, her fourth wall breaks are HYSTERICAL, and the vernacular... OMG... Some of the things the heroine says... I died.Seriously, if you want a book that will keep you up until 4 in the morning reading "just one more page," you NEED to read this book. It's brilliant. Read it. You won't regret it.**I was NOT given a copy of this book. I purchased it of my own accord. I was NOT asked to write a review, either. I did this because I loved the book and I think everyone needs to know about it. Because I feel like authors should support other authors and give recognition when it's due.**Well. Done. Kim. Jones.Bravo.

Crazy pants! Hysterical with plenty of heart!
I read this book because a friend messaged me and basically threatened my life if I didn't, swearing it was the funniest book she's every read. She compared it to Max Monroe...Max Monroe, people! So, of course, I had to drop everything (that's literally what she told me to do) and went and bought this book. While it's not Max Monroe for me (I mean, come on there's no Thatch) it was a very close second!Ignoring the fact that the man is used to paying for escorts, he was everything else you'd expect in "that guy"; moody billionaire, incredible penthouse, a funny friend and a body to die for. Add in a grandfather with super high expectations for him to live up to and you understand a little bit of the moodiness. The girl? oh my, talk about down the rabbit hole. This girl, Penelope Hart, is crazy pants, y'all. She'd drive a priest to drink and probably convince him God wills it. While on a trek to Chicago to avenge her best friend's broken heart, she finds her muse for the ultimate romance novel hero, "that guy". Course she breaks into his penthouse first. This is definitely not love at first sight, it's more like call the cops. With her hysterical inner monologues to keep her company, and us endlessly entertained, she plows her way into his heart. (Think back to Lorelai Gilmore's fast talking ways eventually charming Luke Dane's inner dragon! Gilmore Girls fans will remember how she drove him insane. lol)This utterly ridiculous book was funny, with plenty of heart. I dare you not to laugh. Can't wait for Cam (who I instantly feel in love with) to fall hard for crazypants' best girl.

book was the FUNNIEST romance I have read all year!
5++ StarsIf you’re looking for a light-hearted, laugh out load read to lighten your mood or get over a #bookhangover THIS is the book you NEED. I laughed from start to finish - literally!!!OMFG! This book was the FUNNIEST book I have read all year. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Penelope was the most liveliest character I have ever come across. Filled with so much whit and comedic banter...the chick had me belly laughing from the first chapter. She was crazy, feisty, sassy, awkward and in a total league of her own. So grounded and real her That Guy, Jake Swagger, didn’t stand a chance. She even had so many comedic thoughts running around in that head of hers...it was like reading two stories. This chick was SO DAMN FUNNY! She’s one of those people you can’t ever stay mad at. And the situations she gets herself into, life ends up just full of adventure; leads her to the angsty, sexy, whirlwind romance with her That Guy.Even with all his control and seriousness there was no way he could defend against her. She kept him on his toes and caught him off guard at every turn. She was so down to earth and real that everyone she met was her new friend. This is, hands down, the BEST book Kim Jones has ever written!!!! She did a phenomenal job with her very first romcom!!This is a MUST HAVE!!

So perfectly ridiculous, you can’t help but laugh out loud!
I wanted something fun, fluffy and funny and Kim Jones delivered in spades!Penelope is hella dramatic - I’m talking straight up bonkers. The way this book started, she had me in stitches from the very first page. It’s been a long while since I’ve laughed whilst reading a book and Kim is definitely on my wave length. The humour and sarcasm she injected into this book was just perfect. Exactly what I ordered.Jake is awesome. He got a little too soft for me towards the end, but I still think he’s the perfect partner for Penelope.I swooned, laughed out loud, kept turning the pages and sighed with contentment by the last page. It’s a completely ridiculous storyline, with some outrageous outcomes, but I had the best time reading That Guy.I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I’m going back for more. I’m hoping her other heroines have as much sass as Penelope. The only issue I had with the book... there are a lot of misplaced words. He instead of his, me instead of if, etc. It didn’t get in the way of my reading experience, but it wouldn’t have taken long to tidy those errors up before publishing.

Hysterical read
Omg! I throughly enjoyed this, hysterical book. I can honestly say I haven't stopped laughing. The whole book just makes you laugh and it's exactly like a real life romance. Its like I expect it to happen to me. Not all plain sailing at all.I could totally hear Kim in Penelope and me imagining her doing the audio made me giggle more. Jake and Penelope are a match made in heaven. I just loved them. Proving opposites attract, it's not your typical CEO billionaire romance and I just thought that crazy Penelope balances out straight to the point, no nonsense Jake.I can totally see why an author found it necessary to steal Kim Jones words as they were brilliant. The only good thing about the whole situation was it pointing and encouraging me to read this book. I can't bare the injustice of someone being deceitful and stealing.Just go and read this book. It’s worth it.

I expected more.. and better
Still processing.. but the takeaway from this book is that, humour can only get you that far if you don’t have a strong storyline to back it all up.I feel like it’s a 4 stars for witty, funny one liners and crazy ass antics but story and romance wise it was underwhelming..I didn’t care for the romance, as for the plot, after the initial unorthodox introduction there wasn’t anything exciting happening.Oh, also, the sex talk was kinda cringey, I guess I couldn’t picture Jake saying all that, it came out funny.. but not in a genuine funny way, more like awkward funny. And Jake, he was bland.. I liked Cam more since he seemed to have a personality.Lastly, the whole reference to romance novel heroines and heroes got old and stopped being funny halfway through the book.I guess I can understand what the writer tried to do but in my opinion it failed.. BIG TIME. It’s a shame because it started great, and although the heroine seemed kinda neurotic and just too much.. I liked her.Overall, I’d say this book failed to deliver to its full potential. I started skimming at a certain point because it was.. just uninteresting.

Hilarious and hot
The humour in this book is brilliant. Any book that starts with a girl picking up someone else’s dog 💩 and running through the streets with it, you know you’re in for a laugh!I loved the storyline of this book, Penelope was hilarious and the stuff she did and what came out of her mouth had me laughing out loud. Jake was your typical rich alpha. I loved the banter between him and Penelope. The descriptions that Kim used in this book were spot on and I could totally envision what she was saying; from the river dance to the steamy scenes. The characters were well written and developed and I particularly liked Cam, even being a second character he was so good.I would definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a funny, lighthearted book.

Hilarious
This book was so funny. Ridiculous, but laugh out loud funny! Penelope is a crazy, funny, yet sensitive romantic who, after a series of misadventures finds herself in Jake Swagger's penthouse. Jake is uptight, arrogant and not at all amused to find Penelope in his home. Not surprisingly, sparks fly resulting in fireworks, tantrums and sizzling passion. The story is told from Penelope's point of view, and to begin with I found her a bit annoying, but I soon changed my mind. She is quirky and sassy with a great sense of humour and the narrative is so funny it was impossible not to like her. Jake is a wealthy, sexy, funny and romantic guy. Is he That Guy? He certainly is!!!!
