Avenging Angelo

JUST GREAT --- Wish I could give it 6 stars
Ignore those negative reviews. This movie is SUPER entertaining, so good that I immediately watched it again. It's funny, light, romantic, sweet, has plenty of talented actors, (Anthony Quinn's last role)., held my interest to the end. I was drawn to it right away because I love Mafia movies, but this was wacky rather than serious. It proves that the multi talented Sylvester Stallone can do just about any role, --- from Rocky, to Rambo, to this (light romantic comedy. Btw, he can sing too. ( See the film "Paradise Alley," where he sings the title song for the picture in a sexy deep bluesy voice.) He writes screenplays, also, of course.... Ummm... I think he's at his most attractive here, looking very Italian (Hand gestures, Sly has big hands.) broad shouldered and manly and solidly muscular, like he REALLY could protect a woman. (Yes, yes, naturally, he was ALSO gorgeous in his youth, --- 30 or so.) Frankie Delano, his role in this movie, is so much a gentleman that he's instantly endearing, (Uh, especially when he's cooking and he does a few dance steps.) --- and even more when he's very, very polite, self controlled, shot and bleeding. Obviously. he really, really loves her. (He even tries to help her win another man. Sorry, Raoul Bova doesn't do it for me, --- much too smooth, and pretty.) Madeline Stowe is adorable. I laughed out loud at these lines, --- Her: "i feel like a whore in church." Him: "We all do." Her: What's he (the priest) saying? (in Italian) Him: "Wounds, blood, --- wounds, more blood, more wounds..." Oh, well... ;) Turns out this is my NEW favorite movie, --- I mean besides, "Rocky," and "Eve's Bayou, "Midnight In The Garden Of Good & Evil," and "Kingdom Of Heaven (Director's Cut)," --- of course. YEAH.

Mafia Rom-Com
I watched Avenging Angelo because it is Anthony Quinn's last movie. He is a legend and I wanted to see his last performance, which was spectacular. The movie itself is a romantic comedy in an Italian mafia setting. Some action and a few chuckles throughout the movie. I enjoyed it and think others will if they aren't expecting a heavy mafia drama or high octane action movie.

Surprisingly entertaining
"Avenging Angelo" is a multi-genre film. It could be listed as comedy, action or drama. In order to completely enjoy "Avenging Angelo", you need to be able to understand "Stallone humor.""Avenging Angelo" is about the daughter of ex Italian mobster Angelo Allieghieri. (Anthony Quinn) However, his daughter Jennifer Barrett does not even know he is her father, because Angelo does not want his enemies to get to her. Angelo has a bodyguard named Frankie Delano. (Stallone) As they are eating out, Frankie gets distracted by a police officer writing him a ticket. While Frankie is outside, one of Angelo's enemies kills him. Earlier in the film Angelo says "if anything happens to me, you've gotta keep doing what your doing for me" meaning when he is gone, Angelo wants Frankie to be Jennifer's bodyguard. After Angelo's death, Frankie tries to explain to Jennifer that Angelo Allieghieri is her real father.Throught the rest of the film there are some great scenes between Stallone and Stowe.Overall, Avenging Angelo is very enjoyable film if you like/understand Stallone's style of comedy. "Avenging Angelo" is that it is not purely a comedy film. There is some action and drama mixed into the comedy. Finally, Sylvester Stallone, Madeleine Stowe have good chemistry on screen which helps carry the film. "Avenging Angelo" is also the last film that movie star Anthony Quinn appears in.

See-t-believe!
This movie is full of surprises. When I saw my girl was going to sit me down for a Stallone movie, I said (muttered) "Damn!".When the movie was over I said the same thing, but with a VERY different inflection.Turns out the big whop can actually carry off an acting role. This is a VERY good movie. It is a watch-again treat. So - - -"Damn!" right? In addition to which, has anyone else remarked how much it appears Madeline Stowe should be recognized as this generations;s Katherine Hepburn?

This is one of those movies that's so Bad it's actually Kind of Good
With the corniest soundtrack and predictiable plot you can think of comes a fairly decent comedic escape into ridiculousness.I think it's because I was a big Rambo fan when I was a kid and all things Stallone and of course saw Last of the Mohicans so I knew Stowe had the acting chops and presence (wah wah wooey!) but her acting was so bad in this whether intentional or not, that it was comical. Stallone seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else the entire time, like all his movies (except the original Rambos)

Uncharacteristic for Stalone
This isn't an action movie, but it's not entirely a chick flick either, it is more the latter than the former however and that's where it probably lost its audience. People usually like a certain genre and seldom take chances outside their preferences and that's how good movies like this one slip through the cracks. That's unfortunate because there are many good movies like that, that have no target audience, so never make it big.More and more lately I'm surprised by Stalone's acting range. Even though I would have liked a little more action, I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. Madeleine Stowe was in fantastic form, she obviously works out and is truly a vision to behold.

violence with divine music
I'm surprised that I watched this. It is a different twist to the violence that I like to see on my television. This was straight from the recommendation list. I really did like the music. This music is not what I usually like either. So this is a romantic shooting. I did get guns.

I liked it
This is not a typical Stallone movie. He has a gentle, comedic side in this. I really enjoyed it... enough to buy it.

Loved It!
OK, not Sly’s usual style but I really enjoyed the light humour. I know I can never go wrong with a Stallone movie.

Avenging Angelo
Sylvester Stallone, Madeleine Stowe, Anthony Quinn, Raoul Bova, Lori Anne Alter, Billy GardellAfter his last film "D-Tox" died a very quick death at the box office, you'd think it would be a while before we'd see Sylvester Stallone again. Instead, he's starring in comedy clunker "Avenging Angelo", a significantly better film than the aforementioned action dud he starred in earlier this year - but ultimately another waste of the green stuff, and even further proof that Stallone's career needs a definite revamp.Stallone stars as Frankie Delano, right-hand man of mob boss Angelo Allighieri (Anthony Quinn). Unable to save his boss from being whacked by an old foe, Frankie flees to the home of Angelo's daughter, Jennifer (Madeleine Stowe), who he believed will be next. Problem is, she has no idea the late mobster was actually her father, having been adopted out at an early age.Promising Angelo he would protect and keep his only daughter safe, Jennifer reluctantly agrees to Frankie's safeguard - but it isn't until a foiled hit in a department store that she starts to take her newly discovered heritage seriously. Now she's determined the only way she'll stay alive is to play her enemies at their own game - even if it means 'whacking' them first.Sort of a middling clone of "The Bodyguard", "Avenging Angelo" blends drama, action, comedy, slapstick and romance, even if less successfully than the aforesaid. You see, Instead of sticking to its roots as an effervescent comedy, the film uneasily morphs into a love story, and then into your emblematic Sly action number. Had screenwriter Will Aldis stuck to his guns and decided on what he actually wanted to accomplish through "Avenging Angelo" we might have had a better-rounded picture. As Frankie, Stallone is quite tolerable. It's actually good to see him kicking back for a change, playing a different type of character. And while his romantic scenes with Stowe lack palpable chemistry, it's an interesting move by the filmmakers to have them couple up. As Angelo, Anthony Quinn is in his element, and thankfully his moments in the film are quite memorable. It's a shame that his final film had to be something so middling. The few good moments the film has, the interesting music used in the film, and a more engaging Stallone make "Avenging Angelo" better fare than Sly has served up for a while. But that's only like comparing "Rhinestone" to "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot" - so he's obviously going a long way to go before his fan-base kicks in again. Hopefully, someone will look at this film, realize that Stallone has the potential to headline a better movie again...and next time I'll be reviewing a film of his that isn't just 'endurable.

multi-themed film
sly returns in a film which has it all, drama, action and comedy, with anthony quinn making an early appearance in the film.when the leader of a italian gang is gunned down sly has to go look after his daughter to prevent the same happening to her, with the added spice that he cant fall in love with her,the film is not like the rockys or rambos in anyway and it could be said that mid way through the film loses track slightly, however if your like me who loves anything by sly then this is well worth buying.

avenging angelo
avenging angelo, not a great movie and i am a huge stallone fan, that's why it's got 2 stars instead of 1. first off it begins ok, stallone is a bodyguard who fails to protect angelo's ( the late anthony quinn) life, feeling awful about this he swears to protect the life of his daughter ( madeline stowe), which gives a few funny scenes but after a while just feels really silly. this movie doesn't really know how to take itself, it tries to be a romantic action comedy but fails on all of the above, and the dream scenes when madeline is hugging stallone is what just ruined it even more, in my opinion this is sylvester stallone's worst film, the title is avenging angelo but this is no revenge flick.
