Probably Awesome if you're willing to invest the time
Installed on a system far exceeding requirements. When attempting to start a mission, system becomes completely unresponsive. Rebooting does not improve success. I'd expect this from freeware, but $40? I'll look more carefully at critical reviews for software in the future. UPDATE: Uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have fixed my problem. The missions now run perfectly-- I have updated my star ratings for this game as follows:How much fun? 2 starsOverall rating? 4 starsFun: If you are craving nearly absolute realism, then you would find this game 5 stars for fun. There are adjustments for different realism levels, but the learning curve is fairly steep regardless. The funny thing is, if this game was super easy / arcade style I would be complaining about a lack of realism, so I guess you could call me a lazy critic-- wanting realism but not wanting to invest the time to learn how to handle the realism. I will continue playing / trying / learning, and eventually I expect I'll have a great deal of fun playing this.Overall: Overall this game is very solid. It does not "fully" do what I have been craving in flight simulators since the 80s: I would really like more control over multi-monitor usage. This game can span several monitors, but it's literally just one big window. I am currently runing 6 monitors (2 rows of 3-- don't ask, ok, I'll tell you, I spend most of my time with multiple IDEs, debug windows and RDP sessions going). I would really like to be able to assign overhead / hud to the center monitors, the left controls to the left monitors and the right controls to the right monitors such that I could have different "zoom levels" for each pane. I realize this would be a giant pain in the rear to code, but it would be an awesome experience.

Not your typical shoot-em-up fighter simulation
A bit of advice for those who purchase this one: Read the manual, and make notes for yourself to use in flight. Also, make sure your gaming rig well exceeds minimum requirements (especially with regards to graphics).A-10C Warthog is perhaps the most complex fighter simulation I have ever worked with, having worked with flight simulators (especially Microsoft) since the mid 1980's. I discovered very quickly that, despite my own flight simulator experience (over 100,000 hours total), it was necessary to read and study the manual carefully. I also discovered on my test rig (where all new software gets tested for problems before installing in the main computer) that those thinking of buying this should insure their computer meets (and well exceeds) the minimum graphics requirements. My testing indicates a graphics card with 2 GB of dedicated DDR5 memory is more appropriate for this simulator, testing on a machine with the minimum 512 MB dedicated graphics memory (shared memory simply won't work, from what I can tell) produced disappointing results (low frame rates, seriously distorted graphics, and graphics "hang").Once in flight, this aircraft is fantastic. It appears to perform the same way as the real ones do (I have seen them in action while in the US Army). It maneuvers a lot like the P-51, but with the power of a jet fighter, making it possible to pull off maneuvers that would snap off the wings of most military aircraft (again, just like the real thing).PRO: Very realistic flight modeling. Excellent graphics on a 2GB graphics card in a rig with 8GN RAM and an AMD FX quad processor. Extremely detailed and complete documentation. Perfect for experienced flight simmers looking to add a bit of excitement, as well as extreme maneuverability, to the flight simmer experience. Allows 10 installs, making it possible to move the game to newer gaming rigs as needed (licensed for only one machine at a time). Has mission builder for those tired of always having to fly against Russian pilots (hey, the Cold War is over, there are far more dangerous enemies to contend with).CON: Steep learning curve just to get off the ground safely. Minimum system requirements (especially for graphics) should be set much higher (at least double), as minimum requirements produces poor results. This is not a simple install and fly simulator, a lot of reading and studying of the 377 page manual is required (unless you are already a pilot and have flown the real A-10). This is not a bad thing for those like myself who are hard core flight simmers, but it could be a problem for the casual simmer/gamer who is use to not having to read the manual. No "free flight" mode that I could locate.I gave this one 5 stars because it is, by far, the best aircraft specific flight combat simulator using a modern aircraft that I have ever seen. I'm use to having to read very detailed and extensive instructions for other aircraft, so having to "hit the books" before I can fly the A-10 is expected, given what this aircraft can do. It's nice to be able to get out of my Lockheed WP-3D Hurricane Hunter, and get into an aircraft where I can blow stuff up, and push the limits of flight, all within a very realistic simulator. If your gaming rig exceeds the minimums, and you read and study the manual, this aircraft is a whole lot of fun.

Hard or impossible to install
No mater what I tried it would not install to my computer. I would always get a corrupt filemessage when trying to install it. I was told by the games product support people that I shoulddownload the latest version of the game from there site and install it well after a 4 hr downloadI got the same error messages. Finally I installed it on another computer, in which it installed correctlybut would not run because the video ram was to small after which I copied the entire installed versionto a portable HD and transferred it to the first computer and then it finally ran.The Sim is great its the most complicated flight sim to date you will find yourself going through thetraining missions more than once but if you stay with it I believe you could actually fly an A10also there are a lot of helpful learning films on you-tube that can help you over the learning curve.

Very complicated - Simulator - not a game - you must be very into Simulator -
Very complicated - Simulator - not a game - you must be very into Simulator - don't expect to load and go without hours of introduction. DCS: A-10C Warthog is a PC simulation of the U.S. premier Close Air Support attack aircraft. This is the second aircraft in the DCS products, following DCS: Black Shark, and raises the bar even higher in the DCS products. Warthog brings the most realistic PC simulation of a modern fixed wing combat aircraft in regards to flight dynamics, avionics, sensors, and weapon systems. You also have the option to play Warthog in "Game" mode for a casual game experience. Fly missions in the Caucasus region of the Black Sea against and with a wide array of air, land and sea forces with new and improved intelligence. Create your own missions and campaigns with the included Mission and Campaign Editors, and fly with and against friends online using the included online game browser.
