Great Nelson Riddle songs sung by one of the greatest female voices ever.
Linda Ronstadt is a treasure that had the voice and the ability to make any song writer or producer look like a genius. If you loved the late 40s and 50s Nelson Riddle songs, no one ever did them better than Linda Ronstadt did them.

Perfection
What a beautiful recording of a most incredible voice just singing the most gorgeous songs with an incredible orchestra. That adds up to be just perfection.

Sad
I love Ronstadt but not this CD. I did not like the arrangements of the songs and personally found her singing to lack its usual beauty.

Acoustics do not match the studio version.
I enjoyed Lush Life years ago but the CD disappeared. When I ordered this version, I did not realize it was a live performance version of the original. The sound quality is just not the same. The original Lush Life album has wonderful arrangements and Ronstadt's voice is inspiring. I will reorder to get the original.

Essential for Fans of Ronstadt's "Big Band" Phase
Throughout her career, and to her credit, Linda Ronstadt has taken a gamble on recording what she wanted to record regardless of the commercial outlook going in. Having thoroughly conquered rock radio in the mid-1970s, Ronstadt abruptly decided she wanted to record an album of what were then known as “standards” from the pre-rock era of pop music. The result was her album, “What’s New,” which defied all the odds and became a big seller.Since then, many rock singers (Rod Stewart, Paul McCartney and others) have followed the path she blazed, but none have surpassed her in terms of output. This album captures a radio broadcast of a brief tour she undertook to support the “What’s New” album that was broadcast from the Arlington Theatre in Boston in 1976. No, the audio quality is not up to what we now expect from live recordings. It’s a bit thin, lacking particularly along the bass end of the tonal scale. However, it still several cuts above what one might hear from bootleg recordings of live shows from that era.I think it’s definitely worth owning, particularly if you’re a fan of this phase of Ronstadt’s career. She’s in great voice and backed superbly by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and a full compliment of backup singers. It’s a real “must have” for completists as she sings several songs that she never released in studio versions (including one she claims will be on the follow-up LP, “Lush Life," yet never made it to that album). These include “Keepin’ Out of Mischief,” “Daddy” (in an Andrews-Sisters-style arrangement), “I’ve Got a Guy in Kalamazoo,” “Dream (When You’re Feeling Blue)” and “Choo-Choo Ch’Boogie.” You also get a version of “Mister Sandman,” a song she later cut with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. So, as long as you know going in that the audio quality is really about a 7 out of 10, this is a live performance worth owning.

great album showing Linda's talent to the full.
its a great live album and shows the varied and top talent of a great singer who can turn her voice to any genre of music. well written songs of the era performed with attention to detail and also an orchestra conducted by one of the best.

Great addition for fans.
This appears to be a straight transfer of the audio from the original TV broadcast and issued originally on VHS video. For me it’s a useful addition to my collection of Linda Ronstadt CDs. The quality of the audio is not the greatest altho the vocals come across very well. I’m a great fan of Ronstadt so clearly biased and if you don’t have the studio recordings with Nelson Riddle that’s where you should start but for fans like me, this CD is an excellent reminder of her live performances of this material. It also has the close harmony work plus the Keepin out of mischief track which is not other wise available on CD.

A superb album ruined by poor recording.
I saw a documentary about Linda Ronstadt on BBC 4 a couple of days ago during which this album was mentioned and, not being a rock or country fan but loving the songs on this album, I ordered it. What a disappointment! The recording is has too much treble pre-emphasis and subsequently causes distortion on high notes. Plus there are numerous digital artefacts throughout the album. Oh dear.
