Map and Compass: A comprehensive guide to navigation

A great book
This is a great book if you need to learn how to use a compass. It is well written and informative without getting lost in confusing jargon. I bought a compass to go hiking in North Wales but didn't have much of a clue how to use it properly. This book was a great help and after reading each chapter I was able to practise new skills. By the end of the book I was able to use my compass well and didn't feel nervous about using it on a hike. I would recommend this book if your a little unsure about your compass skills.

A great book which simplifies the theory of navigation and an excellent guide to buying the right map and compass
A very easy book to read and understand thanks to the author's ability to tell you everything you need to know in an easy to follow, simple but very informative way. Before I read this book I thought the theory of navigation would be trickier than the practice but I now know that the opposite applies, so I'm determined to get out on the hills and practice what I've learned. It's also a very useful book for identifying the best type of maps and compass for your needs and can pay for itself if you read this book first. This book would make an ideal present as a) it teaches the reader a new and very useful skill, b) makes the great outdoors more interesting and c) provided the reader achieves the right balance between competence and confidence, could save lives.

Well written, relaxed but very informative
I learned to navigate as a young man and have used my skills on and off through my adult life. I'm a keen hiker but felt I needed to brush up on my skills. This book comes at you as though you are a complete beginner. Although I knew a lot of the earlier chapters in the book, it was still an interesting read. It starts with the absolute basics of navigation and gradually gets more advanced. Don't let this put you off though - it does it in a gentle, non-daunting way. By the end you will be ready to take to the hills/moors to try out your newly learned skills. It also contains a few short humorous stories as well.Whether you're looking to refresh you navigation skills (like me) or are a complete beginner, this book is an absolute must for any keen navigator.

Misleading
Title is somewhat misleadingThere’s no map and no compassIt was recommended on some group for children. It didn’t raise any interest neither in children nor adults.
