A poor quality presentation of great stories. Avoid.
I order many books from Amazon, this is the first I have been dissappointed by in terms of presentation quality. The font is very small, making it a strain to read. The page formatting is unusual, and untidy. The first letter of each story is missing, so where it should say 'Once upon a time,' it says, 'nce upon a time'.There is no publication information on the inside, which is frustrating as I bought this as part of my postgraduate study and need to add it to my bibliography. Also, this publication is very thin, it's much more the size of a pamphlet than a book of fairy tales. It doesn't feel like book either, feels more like a little magazine. The introduction is by Thomas Bodkin, an Irish art historian who actually wrote the introduction for a different, illustrated, edition of Perrault's stories. The publisher claims that this is 'affordable'. Well it's £3.99, and for an extra couple of quid you can get the Oxford World Classics edition of Perrault's fairy tales, or something similar, which will be a proper book. That's what I'll have to do now as I can't even cite this text in my own work.A complete waste of money, a rip off really. Affordable, my foot. Spend an extra quid or two and get book that can bring you joy.

Mala calidad del material de cubierta
El punto más negativo es el material con el cual se ha realizado la cubierta del libro: es papel y se estropea con facilidad por el simple uso. Las illustrationes no son al gusto de todos, dado el illustrador.

Immortal stories with superb Harry Clarke illustrations
If you ever wondered where Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty came from, they came from this remarkable 17th century Frenchman. The stories themselves are fascinating, as they all have morals appended that are, of course, very tied to the cultural mores of the time. And no, they aren't exactly like the Disney versions! Harry Clarke is considered Ireland's greatest illustrator, and the reproductions of his color and black & white work in this book will show you why. The intricacy of the illustrations is just astonishing, and I am happy to say that this book shows them very well - sharp, deep, and with good color fidelity. It's true that some of the females are bare chested and Sleeping Beauty is covered only by a veil, but I find this no more suggestive than, say, Venus di Milo. It's great art, and very much in keeping with the time the tales were written - check out the sky high hair on the noblewomen! All told, a fascinating soiree into the origins of some of our most familiar fairy tales.

The REAL Perrault fairytales
I should have read the description of the book more closely. These are translations of the original fairy tales which are not appropriate for children. If you are looking for originals, this is the book. Otherwise, choose another title which is revised for children.
