Attentive trance inducing. Great for creativity, work or contemplation. This is music from a different zone. Basinski is a genius IMO.

Beautiful and haunting piano loop piece. Be aware this CD contains only one 40 minute track. My enjoyment was diminished by the high price.

With a little patience on behalf of the listener William Basinski’s inventions reap rich rewards.His epic ‘Disintegration Loops’ series is among the most curiously affecting “ambient” worksthat I have experienced in the past quarter of a century and this new album, ‘Cascade’, fitsright in there with the very best of his oeuvre so-far. A thing of near-transcendental beauty.What we hear, over its forty minute playing time, is a single (incomplete) piano phrase, slicedout of an old piece of magnetic tape, looped and subjected to subtle distortion and dynamicmodulation, fading away eventually into a long-breathed final brass-like chord. Repetition andgentle manipulation result in music of extraordinary emotional power and spiritual intensity.A barely distinct sunlit wave shimmering on the very edge of the vast ocean’s horizon line;the echo of a kaleidoscopic dream played over and over at the very edge of consciousness;inside out and outside in; around and around and around again; circling away into blue infinity.Simply wonderful.

William Basinski is a recent discovery of mine. His music suspends time. Cascade is for piano and tape loops, and it evolves in undiscernible loops. A short phrase from a romantic piano piece, so familiar to our ears, with a rusty-kind-of texture, repeated throughout : as if you were watching a quiet rustle undulate under a summer sun on a Sunday afternoon.

Auch hier gilt wieder: Hypnotisierend und einlullend (im positiven Sinne).Zutiefst melancholisch, man schwebt im Nichts, Urzustand, Assoziationen verdichten sich, werden wieder ausgeblendet, das Universum spricht, Wandel durch Zeit und Raum, hier war ich doch schon...? Längst Vergessenes, nicht zu wiederholen, auf immer verpaßte Chance, ....Großartig ! Am Besten um 2 Uhr in der Nacht zu hören. Leichte Müdigkeit vorrausgesetzt. Zwischen gerade noch wach und schlafen. Dann entfaltet sich die volle Wirkung dieser Droge.
