Good Afro Cuban selection.
Good product. I like the carton cover, like the design. It is called "Afro Rhythm" which is intriguing. A lot of these tracks are basically popular songs that would and probably were a hit back in a day, early 60's etc. And I have to tell you - many of them still have the flair and the swag. However, strangely what I liked most were the performances of the dedication songs to the Santeria Deities, the Orisha. Especially the TeleMinha for Shango. They have that crazy drive that few others in my history can match. All in all I think you should have this disc as a collector's item as well as a good selection of earlier Mongo Santamaria's repertoire.

Mongo el Otto Rey?
If you want authentic Afro-Cuban here it is. Only Puente or Tjader bringing their A games are in this league. And not coincidently Mongo was the spark plug of both bands when to my ears they did their best work

Great percussionist, sound quality poor
I was very much looking forward to listening to this CD, but while most of the tracks are very good, one CD "sticks" and the other one has two spots of very poor sound quality. Note to Amazon; I would pay more if there was a better method of ensuring consistent sound quality on the CDs purchased through you.

He was considered one of best in the world and I'm very happy to have ...
I was about 20 years old when I met Mongo Santamaria at Drum City on Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood, Ca.At the time I was a taking latin percussion lessons from Sam Slonecker. He was my instructor at Drum City.Late nights after the clubs closed many of the top drummers would gather there for sessions lasting into the wee hoursof the morning. That was about 1955 to 1957. This is an album I had never heard before. He was considered one ofbest in the world and I'm very happy to have it

まだ好みの段階にまでは行っていません
ちょっと中身が古すぎました。自分の好みはもう少したってからの、ラテンジャズと言えるスタイルになってからのもの。これはクラシックすぎました。
