Watched when it first came out and just watched again in 2024. It still sands up as a fantastic film. Would highly recommend!!

Upgrade flew right under most people's radar on release which is a massive shame because it's pretty amazing! Especially when you know it was made in Australia with an entirely Australian crew! Up until, and pretty much after, the Matrix films Australia has not been known for it's film making ability. I grew up watching Neighbours and Home & Away right from their first episodes so I mean no offence, but man, their entertainment output sucks! I seriously don't see the appeal of Mad Max.This lovely new Limited Edition from Second Sight is pretty great. I'm sad to say mine arrived a bit dented which annoyed me but still, the case, disc, book and poster are undamaged. To me it looks the same as the U.S Blu-ray version which is no bad thing! The special features kill that version off with an audio commentary with director Leigh Whannell, an interview with Leigh Whannell, an interview with producer Kylie Du Fresne, an interview with cinematographer Stefan Duscio, an interview with editor Andy Canny and an interview with fight choreographer Chris Weir.The booklet is 36 pages long and the fold-out poster has the same art as the box cover.I hate spoiling films so I will just say that Upgrade is a very entertaining Sci-Fi/Action/Drama/Horror with a tragic edge! Nice twists along the way and once it gets started it really doesn't stop. Leigh Whannell is growing into a decent director with The Invisible Man coming up which looks pretty neat and Escape From New York after that. I hate remakes but maybe he can do something with it. We shall see..... He did create the Saw and Insidious franchises so he has some ability!

What a cracking film, ordered it within 5mins of watching it on TV. How come this film went unnoticed from the release date, pity really all this online film stuff . RIP blockbusters . The dvd had to come from New Zealand but worth the wait.I've got a compressed disc and spinal cord damage so I can emphasise with the organic subject, with a tear in my eye at the key scene. The futurist really earnt his pay on this film, one of the most accurate probabilities of the yet to come. The main actor was also good in promethesis.

Hi, this movie could be seen to be many person's guilty pleasure. A very well-conceived relatively low budget sci-fi thriller featuring Logan Marshall Green from Prometheus as a quadraplegic who gets a second chance at life when he is fitted with a micro-chip at the back of his head by a friend of his who runs a computer chips company. After he is fitted with this chip he goes on the rampage trying to find those whom are responsible for his condition and for the murder of his wife in similar conditions. The money has been spent in the right areas ensuring production design, acting, action and effects make it seem like a bigger budget film. An excellent result and one of the sleeper hits of 2018.

Saw this film a while ago and really liked it. Waited for a Blu-Ray release which never seemed to come. I didn't want a foreign import. Eventually this version was released, a bit expensive for a Blu-Ray but I wanted it so paid the price.A lower budget film that has some good concepts, it's well executed and holds up against more expensive films.

Spielberg would have loved to have made this, and its premise is every bit as good as Minority Report. The direction is confident and and pretty flawless. Lots of nice touches without being the least flashy.

Violent, unusual and well acted, with a good twist at the end.This is not going to change your life, but it's a fun way to pass however long it is that the film runs for.

This film is by no means perfect but what a change to watch something that has had a bit of thought put into it. Its not just about the violence although this is graphically brilliant, there is actually a storyline and a nice little twist in the tale. Well worth watching.

Irgendwann, in der Zukunft: autonomes Fahren mit Elektro-Autos ist die Regel, selbständiges Fahren mit Fahrzeugen mit Verbrennungsmotor die absolute Ausnahme. Der angenehm ewig gestrige Schrauber Grey bringt eine der Ausnahmen, einen Camaro (mit sehr geilem Sound, by the way..), zu dem mindestens etwas seltsamen Software-Guru Eron, der ihm dabei einen Blick in die noch zukünftigere Zukunft gewährt: Eron stellt Grey den Super-Chip STEM vor, der (Zitat) „alles kann. Alles ist möglich.“ Auf dem Nachhauseweg im absolut todsicher autonom gesteuerten Elektro-Auto geschieht das eigentlich unmögliche: das System verliert die Kontrolle über das Auto; dieses baut einen spektakulären Unfall. Als wäre das nicht schlimm genug werden die beiden auch noch überfallen. Ergebnis und Siegerehrung: Greys Frau Asha wird getötet, er selbst in die Querschnittslähmung geschossen. Wieder auf den Beinen (sprich: im Rollstuhl) unterbreitet Eron Grey einen Vorschlag: mit dem implantierten STEM könnte Grey wieder die Kontrolle über seinen Körper erlangen. Und so kommt es auch, allerdings nutzt Grey STEM nicht nur dafür...„Upgrade“ wurde im Voraus vielerorts recht bejubelt, und jetzt nach der Sichtung kann ich den Jubel nachvollziehen und durchaus bestätigen.„Upgrade“ ist in einer hochtechnisierten Zukunft angesiedelt: jede Tätigkeit und Kleinigkeit im täglichen Leben wird mit Computern erledigt und abgearbeitet, die mit Sprach- und Gestensteuerung versehen sind und gewissermaßen allesamt über eine hochentwickelte künstliche Intelligenz verfügen. In diesem Szenario wirkt der Mechaniker Grey per se schon wie ein Fremdkörper, und die unterschiedlichen Weltsichten prallen bei der Übergabe des Oldtimers sehr deutlich aufeinander. Ausgerechnet ihm (leider erkennt man da und vorher überdeutlich den Storytwist, der dadurch eigentlich schon keiner mehr ist) bietet der Software-Visionär an, ihm einen revolutionären Chip einzupflanzen, der die unterbrochene Reizleitung übernehmen würde. Grey jedoch, seines Lebensinhaltes beraubt, begibt sich auf einen gnadenlosen Rachefeldzug, zu dem ihn der Super-Chip geradezu manipuliert.Wenn man es genau nimmt, ist „Upgrade“ bis dahin nichts neues, ähnliche Stories hat man z. B. in „RoboCop“ schon öfter mal auf der Mattscheibe gesehen. Als Grey STEM jedoch die Führung überlässt, wandelt sich der Film zu einem ziemlich brutalen Actioner, der verblüffende und genial anzusehende Kampfchoreographien aufweist. Dabei wird auf den Einsatz von Wackelkameras verzichtet, und man kann die Fights „in aller Ruhe“ genießen.Das Besondere und witzig-satirische dabei ist, dass der eigentlich friedliche Grey so ganz und gar nicht damit einverstanden ist, was der rational-emotionslose Chip durch seinen Körper mit seinen Gegnern so alles anrichtet und nach den brutalen Kills schuldbewusst und verzweifelt entsprechende Dialoge mit STEM hält. In dieser Hinsicht ähnelt „Upgrade“ durchaus ein wenig „Venom“, wie auch der Hauptdarsteller Tom Hardy ziemlich ähnlich sieht. Allerdings ist „Upgrade“ der bessere „Venom“. Der deutlich bessere sogar.Insgesamt betrachtet bietet „Upgrade“ eine an sich gewöhnliche, banale Rachestory; präsentiert diese jedoch als erfrischend innovative Variation. Hinzu kommen die ungewöhnlichen, tollen Schauwerte, die „Upgrade“ bietet: besonders die Architektur ist außergewöhnlich, und manche Einstellungen sind kleine optische Kunstwerke. Das fängt schon mit dem Intro an und setzt sich beim Unfall und manchen Kampf-Choreos fort.Das Bild ist toll. Schärfe, Tiefenschärfe, Kontrast und Schwarzwert sind sehr gut; auch die Plastizität ist toll. Nur in ein, zwei Szenen wirkt das Gesehen minimal unscharf. Trotz der Tatsache, dass nahezu alle Szenen bei Nacht oder im Halbdunklen spielen sind alle Details perfekt herausgebildet. Das Bild wirkt trotz verschiedener Stilmittel weitestgehend natürlich.Der Sound wird von meinem Receiver mit Dolby Digital EX reproduziert. Der Track ist über fast jeden Zweifel erhaben. „Upgrade“ hat Bass und Dynamik satt, die Surroundkulisse ist stets sehr gut vernehmbar, und auch direktionale Effekte sind sehr gut ortbar. Insgesamt betrachtet ein nicht perfekter, aber sehr guter Track.Extras habe ich wie üblich nicht angesehen; ich vergebe den Mittelwert. Die Scheibe hat ein Wendecover.Mein persönliches Fazit: Normalerweise bin ich von vorne herein eher etwas skeptisch, wenn ein Film über den grünen Klee gelobt wird. „Upgrade“ jedoch hat das Lob redlich verdient: der Film ist trotz des früh preisgegebenen Twists spannend, hervorragend choreographiert und teils verblüffend brutal. „Upgrade“ ist mir eine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung für Action- und Science Fiction-Fans wert. Geiler Film, zwar kein Action-Brett, aber ein Film mit Bretter-Actionszenen gewissermaßen.

Es una gran película, el argumento es bastante interesante y la trama esta bien llevada, si te gustan las películas de ciencia ficción esta es imperdible, la recomiendo ver con un buen sistema de audio ya que los efectos de sonido en algunas escenas la lleva a otro nivel, no duden en comprarla.
