Is the snap-on cap reusable or do you have to buy extra caps?

They are reusable...I ordered 2 bottles, they sent an extra cap for each bottle

Any one used these as an alternative to a plastic water bottle? wondering about leaking from the top if put in bag?

They make terrific containers in the refrigerator. As a plastic water bottle replacement absolutely not. The plastic cap is a slip on held in place by friction. You may have a disaster if it is bouncing around. Also it is quite heavy.

Does the cap make this bottle leak proof when shaking vigorously?

I have never tried shaking it vigorously, but have never had it leak when the bottle was turned upside down. This cap fits very securely so can't believe that it would leak even if shaken. Hope this has been of some help to you.

does it have stainless steel option for the pour or cap? No plastic please!!

There are no threads to screw any lids on, so stainless steel would not work. The plastic lids easily snap on after being softened with warm water. I love my milk bottles and have been using them every day for 2 years.
