Insert split, soft handle, minimal control and feel
First, the handle insert which the package label advised me to use split down its seam before I even had a chance to install the handle. So I used the next closest insert but the file only went in halfway. Then the handle only went down halfway on the insert. So I was left with basically a file dangling below a floppy, rubbery handle. There was no way there would be and feel or control with this setup. So I trashed the handle, and took off the insert and trashed it as well. Then I found a piece of old wood closet rod, cut off about 6 inches, drilled a stepped hole in one end and rounded off the other, and hammered my homemade handle on. This is the last Nicholson handle I’ll ever buy. Nicholson sells decent files, but their handles are a joke. Make your own handle.

Split the first time I attempted to insert the correct file.
Form/fit is as absolutely incorrect. The ones that came with my files split and these did the same, brandey-new.

It’s green
If you want your file handles to match your leprechaun costume look no further. The four different inserts fit different file shank sizes, described on a nice table in the back of the packaging. Also this thing is supper green. Handle is like hulk green and inserts are more like green lantern green. The product code in the description is the same as in the Amazon listing description 21474NN.When I installed the 8”mill file, I tried both installing the insert into the handle and the the file, or installing the file in the insert, and then into the handle. I felt the latter was more secure, even though the insert protruded ~3/16”. As long as I was using a 2 handed filing technique there were no issues. I did not use it with smaller taper square files, to square off holes, which could result in the the handle to come off in the backstroke. I did not hammer the file in the handle just hand pressed on the bench. It’s ok It does the job. For $4 they could have included a second handle. This thing is so green I don’t know if I’m supposed to use it for my files or to feed it pizza and teach it karate.
