Forget every other method, buy the diamonds and be done
It's like another reviewer said, just get these from the start and be done.I have cheaped out for years. I've used sandpaper, wet stones, and natural stones. I finally broke down and bought these diamonds, and I wish I'd bought them years ago.I was torn between these and the double-sided trend. Ultimately I chose these to get the three stones because my plan was to make the board like Paul Sellers, which after getting them with the included holder I've decided not to do. I love having them elevated in the holder, it makes flattening backs super easy, which I believe would be more difficult if they were mounted in a block.I followed the break-in procedure and then went to work on my chisels (Stanley 750's) which really all needed fresh edges and flattened backs from years of neglect. I spent several hours working each through the grits and it felt much less like a chore than normal, it was actually somewhat enjoyable. I think it's because they cut so much faster than I'm used to, so you can see your progress.I also bought a honing guide for my plane irons, which I've always done freehand, never again, the guide puts a perfect edge every time.I also did a few kitchen knives, I'm generally not that good at knife sharpening, but I was able to get them arm hair shaving sharp.I'm done with sandpaper on glass, I'm done with wet stones. All you need is this set and a leather strop and your set for life for all your woodworking tools.I was thinking I would add the shapton glass stone that Rob Cosman recommends, but after seeing the edges I get with this combination, I really can't justify it.It sucks spending this much on something boring like sharpening stones, I know, but make it a priority and buy them, you won't regret it and it will seriously improve your game.

Good Quality
Good heavy duty plates. Cant say anything negative for the price. Pretty aggressive until broken in but now they sharpen very well .

Amazing service. Very fast sharpening tools
First the good.I just received my 3 stone set a few days ago. First impression was they were a lot heaver than I anticipated. Not a bad thing. When in the base it has a very stable and “rooted” feel. I picked up an inexpensive set of chisels thet were going to require the proper bevel set up. The 300 grit stone was extremely fast at getting me to the proper angles. The finer stones only seemed to require 10-30 strokes more each, depending on the size of the chise i was working on. Stropping with green compound after the 1200 stone left a very brigjt finish. Now the less good.Im not sure if there was just a lot of diamond that broke loose while breaking in the stones or i didnt keep them wet enough, but they started to develop some scratches along the path you use while sharpening. I initially thought it was just metal clogging the stones but After cleaning rinsing and scrubbing the stones they were obvioisly small gouges. And then the amazing...I sent an email, through amazon to the seller. I got a reply that same evening (after hours no less) and a phone call the following morning. Service was very professional and polite. Replacement stones are being shipped as i write this. They also recommended some lubricant and techniques to help break in the new set.Id like to mention the old set will be fine for kitchen use and i will likely still use them to freshen up some of my heavier blades that arent for super fine work, if they end up in the workshop. Draw knives, hatchets etc.I would not hesitate to do business with these guys. Old school customer service and a product that does what its designed to do.

Extend the break in estimate
Overall a good product. I mean, it's diamond stones so they do what they're supposed to. But it took me much longer to break them in than suggested in the instructions. They finally broke to a smooth finish after a total of about seven hours over six months. For the record I did use the lubricant to give the product the best opportunity for success. Maybe my set was a one-off, no way of knowing.I would buy the product again as it does make the grade...eventually. Just be patient for the excellent results. Then you're golden.

Oh man I can finally get things sharp!!
I've tried so many different sharpening systems, both manual and powered over the last year and this is the very first one that's left me feeling like I'm actually getting my blades sharp. Great instructions and I'm just thrilled that I can have some confidence in getting my tools sharp!

Great Stones
Recommended for anyone wanting to get into sharpening with diamond stones and wants something with quality. Sharpening with these are an ease and puts a great edge quite quickly. The steel block that they're attached to does have some heft to it, so these are quite bulky stones. Regardless, they are great stones, definitely recommended. Some lapping/honing fluid to go with these are also strongly suggested as well.
