a quick and easy way to charge your car with some caveats
Update on 7/19/2021: reduced to 2 stars. It trips the breaker way too often without a reason. It's impossible to rely on it. I cannot leave the vehicle charging overnight because chances are it won't be ready in the morning. I have to charge during the day or evening hours constantly checking if the car reported unplug.Update on 5/7/2021: reducing to 3 stars. I didn't have any problems with this device until yesterday when I returned from a trip with only 10% charge left in my battery, which required about 12h overnight charging for the next day. As I found out the next morning the Splitvolt tripped its own breaker after about 6 hours of charging. There wasn't anything justifying it, I have Grizzl-e charger which very precisely regulates the current at 23.7A.It means that you can't rely on Splitvolt doing it's job, you may end up with your car not being fully charged in the morning before the next trip. It's also bad for the car when the abrupt charging fault happens.Previous review:If you don't have a dedicated NEMA 14-50 installation in your house or don't want to spend thousands on a new installation, this is an easy way to tap on your dryer line to charge your car.Pros:- cheap and easyCons:- you need to limit charging to 24A. Chances are your EVSE is rated 30A or more, which can present a problem. I tested this splitter, it will work at 30A for couple hours and then trip the breaker. So that's a no-go. Either you need a separate EVSE with 24A draw, or have an ability to change the current in the car.- it's not UL listed, which means a city won't issue a permit, and if there is a rebate you won't get it, and most electricians will refuse to install it. You are on your own.

Good idea but the unit simply doesn't work
I like the idea of this product (don't need to manual switch the plug between my ev charger and dryer), but the quality of the product simply makes it unusable. When the first unit comes, it has oil dirt on it and there is apparently a loose component inside it so I return that one and order a replacement. When the replacement comes, it is clean but still you can hear that is a component loose inside the unit and I think maybe this is their design !!! Install the unit and try it out, after two days of usage, the unit keep cutting the power of ev charging or dryer. I try to debug it by only plug in the dryer or ev but the random power cutting still keep happening. The unit will produce a sound and cut the power for 30 sec to 2 mins, then resume the power for few mins and cut it again. This situation makes the unit useless (I cannot dry my clothes ) and still need to do manual plug switch to get my dryer working normally. At this point, I lose my faith on it and decide to return the product.

Wonderful Product!
This is an Ingenious and elegant device apparently developed by some smart and clever people. Instead of paying $1900 to have an additional 240 volt/30amp circuit in my garage, paying $319 saved me a bundle. And I certainly did not need an additional 240 volt circuit. Also, in the future if for some reason I do need 240 volt power to run a compressor, etc., I can use this device. It went from taking 12 hours to charge my RAV4 Prime to 2.5 hours using the 240volt circuit. With 12 hour charging on a 120 volt circuit you have to charge during some peak hours. Now all my charging is being done completely off peak. The switcher works perfectly. Ran the dryer and it immediately shut off the EV circuit. Checked back later when the dryer finished its thing and the charging had resumed. It has a very cool display. Nice to see the data especially showing the amperage. And last but not least, the customer service could not be any better. 10 stars if I could. Truly nice people. They helped me figure out my setup and answered my numerous inquiries.

Ok not 100% perfect.
Works good but recently the built in breaker started to throw off while charging. This has happened twice now with no known issues. I immediately checked the unit since my car notified me that charging was interrupted. The unit seem a little warm but nothing concerning so not sure why it flipped off. If this continues to happen I may ask for a return as this may become more frequent and really defeats the purpose it was design for.

Perfect for my Tesla!
I was lucky enough to have my laundry room close to my garage, I wouldn’t have looked forward to spending a couple thousand dollars running a dedicated line from the far side of my house. This splitter is a low cost way of using the dryer plug to charge my Tesla, it’s built solid and was easy to mount, the LCD display runs like an odometer for energy used and the unit has a built in breaker. It’s very inexpensive considering the quality.
