Adobe Photoshop Elements 10: Classroom in a Book

A great reference tool and Learning aid
I've been a user of elements for many years, but I only use the full edit part of Elements for myself. However, I’m involved in a program to helping and teaching others to use all of elements, so the book saves me time and allows me to get my head around the Organiser and Guided and Quick edit sections of the program within minutes rather than picking through the product, which is often my own approach to learning.I design all my own exercises using my own photos, but I find Adobe’s approach to explaining things for people to be excellent and so the book helps me in my approach for designing the exercises.I also recommend the book to novices as both a learning and reference tool.

Excellent
I have PSE 9 and I ungraded to PSE 10. I read through Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Classroom in a Book and found it to be excellent! When I upgraded to 10, it wasn't a second thought on whether or not to get this book. The two books are most definately similiar, however, the new features for 10 are explained in this book. Reading this book also is a great refresher on Elements as a whole as well as teaching the new features. Whether or not you are familiar with Elements I stongly suggest getting this book! You may find some features that you have forgotten. Also, a previous review on this book mentions, "Way too much information about the organizer." While it is correct, organization of your photos is a key component to; a photographer and to Photoshop Elements as a whole! Also, there is MUCH more information in this book!!!

Don't waste your money
I purchased this classroom book because I have been unable to learn the program on my own. After struggling on my own and registering for a PE class locally that was cancelled, I decided to buy the book by the company that created PE. Perhaps I'm late getting into Photoshop, but wanted to try it because my wife and I both take pictures, and the free service that we used in the past requires changing photo numbers to put together a combined slide show.Admittedly, Photoshop delivers on the ability to combine photos. However, PE is the worst program that I have ever attempted to learn since I started using a PC for work in 1985. There is no one to call with questions, and you're always referred to the user community for help. Unfortunately, the book proved useless. The screen shots in the book don't match up with what I saw on the screen, and again it's impossible to talk to an affiliated person for help. In addition, the exercises left me locked in various screens that prevented me from doing the next exercises. Moreover, the instructions in the book did not enable me to import "keyword tags" that are so vital in the exercises; nor, could I find instructions on how to retroactively import those tags. Clearly, there is much that can be done with this program, but this book does not contain the keys. If you're a "newby" like me, this is not the book for you. Go elsewhere to learn! Further, the book is not returnable.

Adobe Photshop Elements 10 Classroom in a Book
Very good program. I have been going step by step trying to learn how to do different things to my photos. It has been a very informatable book for me. It was a little hard at first as it is very detailed. But I was patient and am so happy to be able to remove background objects in my pictures and fill in the blanks with colors. I am still learning and am very happy with this program & book as well as happy with the great Amazon customer service. I recommend Adobe Photshop Elements 10 to anyone. It is fun.

Not for beginners...
I purchased APE 10 and found that you need a degree in IT in order to use it.Went to Amazon and found this book and I thought, "Great...spells it out." No such luck. If you want to use Photoshop go to a class. The help page is NO help unless you know about IT "stufffff."I fell into the trap of reading leaders that say, "...it's simple, we will teach you..." Only if you know the past 4 years of IT Technology. It is a nice book, but I would like them to advertise, "...not for beginners."

Worth my Purchase!!
I totally love this Photoshop Elements. I had been online reading the reviews before I made this expensive purchase and I'm glad I went ahead and bought it. It's great for my family old photos that I have recently received from my mother. You really have to focus and learn the software, but with all the great books and online tutorials, you can totally learn it. You just have to have a lot of time to learn it, which I don't, so it's taking me a while, but I'm getting there.

CIB continues to improve
Adobe's "Classroom In A Book" series gets better with each revision although the section on restoring old photographs has been removed from version 10. Old photos are covered only as an aside. All in all, I consider this version to be an improvement over previous versions.

Good Training Aid
The Class Room in a Book for Photoshop Element 10 is stright forward and easy to follow. If anything it shows you all the detailed things you can do in this software which for the occasional user could be overwelming. If you complete the training you will know how to use Element 10 and have a good fall back book should you forget something. Well orgainzed.

This is the book to purchase!
I'm going to keep this short and simple. Ok, yes, a little pricey, but then i guess from my experience you pay for what you get. Each of the chapters in the book are lessons, and these work in conjuction with a disc, that is supplied of material relating to what's in the actual book. So as it says in the title, a classroom in a book. Basically it's like paying for a miniature college course. Never had a book like this with a disc before, but personally i feel it works really well. The results being, easy to learn, very informative and clearly illustrated. But on this note, we are talking about Adobe! So on a scale, 10/10 for me!

Very good so far
Given lack of Adobe manuals, this is proving invaluable. I'm having a grapple with one problem at the moment which isn't articulated in an index so need to search around in the book. I am not using it in a disciplined, class-room way but as an aide to editing my photos from a recent trip. I'm making good progress so far. The hard stuff will come later. Thank goodness I now understand more about Organiser and its ramifications. I haven't tackled layers yet though !

A teaching aid without the lessons ain't much use.
hey Amazon people, how do I go about getting the CD of lessons which is supposed to accompany this book. Can I download it somewhere ? A teaching aid without the lessons ain't much use to anybody. I will rate it properly once I can try it out.edit - There is a url right at the back of the index at the end of the book, which I found more by luck than judgement. This points at a download site with the lesson files. Now I can start learning. Review later, but # of stars increasing.

Classroom in a Book
Book and disc are very good. When used in conjunction with Adobe's web sites provide an excellent start to ElementsThe lessons do take you through the product well, I would recommend it to anyone new to the art of Photo manipulation.

Teach Yourself PSE10
Does what it says on the tin. Not yet finished it - still working my way through. I found that you do sometimes have to guess a step or two. Seems OK otherwise.
