How do you get it out of demo mode, it explains the product then says brush up and down, which we do, then nothing, it also rattles, can ypy help?

Hello Rebekah. Straight out of the packaging your brush will be in “TRY ME” mode. To exit “TRY ME” mode follow these steps: 1. After removing the brush from the packaging, press the button on the side of the brush to hear the audio introducing BriteBrush™. 2. Start brushing up and down after the introduction. This will start a brief practice session. After you finish the practice session the brush will enter its normal mode.

What kind of batteries does it take; can it run on rechargeable batteries?

BriteBrush uses two AAA batteries. We recommend using fresh name-brand batteries.

We got this today and took it out of the package and there was a rattle sound. It works, but is it supposed to sound like that?

The rattle sound is the direction sensor that tells the brush that children switched sides.
