I do not think it does have a rattle.

Q: Does this need to be washed before giving to baby? Probably a dumb question but I’m a first time mom.

Interesting question. While I always wash new clothes before wearing, I have never washed a stuffed animal before using or giving it to a child. Many stuffed animals not withstand being totally immersed in a washer.

Q: Are the eyes hard plastic or thread?

The eyes are thread and the bunny is 5 inches. The bunny can also be separated from the "lovie" square of material.The bunny is super soft and the "lovie" square of material is soft, but a slightly different material texture.
