Excellent purchase
I bought this for my son for Christmas he loves it . I would have liked it to be cheaper as a few years ago it was. But it’s becoming a rare piece so he was over the moon to receive it. Great articulation and not too complicated to turn it from the robot into the lorry , so all round good purchase

What you'd expect if you already own the 2019 Siege version of Ultra Magnus
Not as good as the Siege version, is my honest verdict. The robot mode is really good looking, but not really that much different from the Siege one. New head sculpt I think. Has the same sort of look as that SD Statue of Magnus dropping the Matrix has. Is that a good look? It's probably right for the character, but does underscore that Magnus is an also-ran as Autobot leadership contenders go. Most irritatingly, they've given him ankle tilts...but left him with the 'A' stance sculpted feet like the Siege version! Whyyyy?Stripping the armour off, White Prime is just as podgy as previously, but even more pigeon chested here, thanks to the Earth mode truck body. No effort to do something for the Transformation has been taken for the new toy, so you're stuck with a white cab with a pair of robot hands flapping about behind it. I'm sure if Hasbro wanted to, they could have made that Siege Optimus cab work for Magnus - it's just plugging on armour to him after all. Once the armour's all assembled into a trailer, the look is definitely less impressive than the Siege toy.The tractor cab really does look massive now and the trailer is just a gappy mess. It's fine and does the job, it's just not all that impressive for a figure with this price tag. Extra props for the moulded spots for an Autobot sigil and then not even bothering to sticker or tampograph them. All this isn't to say Magnus isn't a bad toy, he's just a bit perfunctory in his execution. And not as good as the Siege version.

Poorly designed
The original 1986 Generations 1 version of Ultra Magnus still remains a strong contender for my favourite Transformer toy/figure of all time. As a child I instantly preferred it to the equivalent Optimus Prime and was utterly blown away by the two robot forms it possessed. Sometime after I had the toy I was probably as equally disappointed that there was no sign of the wonderful truck cab white robot when the character began to appear in the comics, film and cartoon. Even to this day I think it has only made one brief appearance during the Dreamwave period.I haven’t been particularly impressed with any versions of the character since, either because they have looked rather poor by comparison or they didn’t incorporate the robot formed from the truck cab.Initially I was intrigued with the news of the Siege version, but it simply looked terrible once pictures of it started to appear, especially that hideous cab. Unfortunately, the Kingdom version is based heavily upon the Siege one rather than being an entirely new model. Due to the reduction in plastic packaging giving the box a smaller window, this is something I didn’t realise when I pre-ordered it straight after it was announced. It definitely looks better than the Siege version and is sufficiently different from it despite being similar in terms of transformation. The Earth based altform is certainly preferable but it still looks messy. The trailer section is somewhat flimsy, badly designed and too small, especially height wise, in comparison to the cab. The transformation also means that the cab is stuck rigidly to the trailer so isn’t able to turn independently as you would expect. Assembled together, it is also impossible to get it to roll along. The cab looks okay from a front on view but from both the side and back it looks awful. There is little effort to make the arms fold away somehow to form the back of the cab. Instead they just bend behind and remain clearly visible as arms. The fists are particularly unsightly as they just stick out the back in full view, even with the trailer attached. This just seems sloppily designed as I can’t see any reason why the fists couldn’t fold into the lower arms as they frequently do on many Transformer toys. The transformation also means that the cab’s smokestacks end up in the middle of the cab instead of on the side as you would expect. Most annoying on the cab is that the central panel where the robot head would emerge from is coloured grey instead of white like the rest. It seems a bewildering design choice as there is absolutely no reason for it.The robot modes are certainly better. The small one has the essence of the G1 figure as well as capturing the look of his brief comic appearance. He is slightly ill proportioned and certainly looks better with the back section elevated to shoulder height rather than left off the back of his hips as shown in the promotional images. The larger robot is formed by a process of armouring up the smaller one; just like the Siege version and in a way similar to utilising a Weaponizer. It is reasonably impressive, especially from a front on view. He is a bit chunky but the character generally is anyway. The head sculpt is great and the highlight of the entire figure. For some reason, though, and unlike most figures in the War for Cybertron range, Ultra Magnus has no ankle pivot. A lot of toys could have got away without this feature but it is really needed for this version of Ultra Magnus. Instead his feet are moulded at angle that forces him to stand legs apart. It also results in the feet not being able to be straightened when in altform giving the back of the trailer a weird appearance. There are multiple ports all over the large robot and the car carrier. This, along with the figure’s bulk, make him quite good to combine with the various Weaponizers and Fossilizers. However, it does seem that the designers missed a trick by not having it compatible with the Modulators. Surely Ultra Magnus would be perfect for this. Instead you can’t even use him as a car carrier as there is no way to fit other Transformers inside him.

Plasticky
Not like they use to be. Awful design for £50!
