Excellent for ridding your home of rats and mice - no chance of touching dead critters!
This product is amazing! If you are having rodent problems, this is the product that you want to use to catch and eliminate them. To the person that commented that these don't work for rats, you will have to do some research. I own an original Rat Zapper (this is replacing the original after MANY years of excellent service) and it came with instructions on how to catch rats -vs- mice. This product, for some reason, didn't include those instructions. I think it's because the company was sold to a bigger company and they were looking to cut costs? In think that this is misguided cost cutting because leaving those instructions out defeats the purpose of having the trap. If you have mice, just put the batteries in, put bait in the back of the trap (I use dog food), turn it on, and wait. I caught two mice in less than 8 hours. The first one was caught within minutes! With rats you have to put the trap out with nothing in it. Then you put bait in it without turning it on. You let them take the bait a few times. THEN you put the bait in and turn it on. You WILL catch rats - they just aren't as easy as mice. We caught many rats with the old one. I'm glad to be rid of them!

These traps work but the wiring pops out of place causing false alarms. Minus one star.

I ordered 8 of these traps and none of them ...
I ordered 8 of these traps and none of them worked as noted on the instruction. 8 units were returned. After installing the batteries, and turning on the device, the red light should blink once but this never happened. There was no way to determine if the units worked properly, but all 8 failed. This "Ultra" model appears to have a cheaper design than the previous model, of which I have 6 units. The older models have a green light indicator indicating that all is operationally ready as well as a red light indicator for other conditions. I called the manufacturer/distributor, Victor, to inform them of the problem.

DIED AFTER A FEW MONTHS
I don’t know what happend. I’ve been using this brand of trap for 20 years. The last couple of years the traps have only worked for a couple of months and then they don’t work anymore. They DO work great but after a few months?! The prior traps would work for years if maintained correctly

I LOVE THE TRAPS
Ok, I waited awhile before doing this review, because the previous reviews were mixed. I LOVE THE TRAPS! MY HUSBAND LOVES THE TRAPS! I have one in my shop, against a wall, but visible any time I walk through, and even though it's Summer, I get a mouse every once in awhile. That old chunk of cheese is dried up and hard, no matter, they still go for it. I've YET to have to change batteries in ours, but I've caught at least six mice in mine since I set it out about six months ago, and he's caught way more, since his shop is a metal building and not as sealed. The light blinks red when a mouse is inside, so it's easy to glance at it as I pass by, and even my husband likes that you can just dump the dead mouse out and don't have to pry his squishy dead carcass out from under a spring! He uses a small piece of snickers bar, because he read somewhere that it's like crack for mice, haha. I know they are working, because we see NO evidence of mice droppings or chewed up bedding in either of our shops, and catching mice in the Summer here is unusual. Fall is normally our time to be diligent. We keep a clean house, but living in the country, I don't care HOW clean you are and HOW much you seal up every crack or hole, the little buggers can climb up your brick looking for access. One time, I pulled open a drawer in my shop, to startle a momma who then faced me, laid back over her newborn babies, little arms outstretched, obviously ready to take on the world! Well, we had a massive debate who was going to murder the momma and babies, until we realized neither of us could do the dirty deed, so they took up residence in a plastic breadbox with a clear cover, much to the extreme delight of our three young boys. They had great fun creating a home with tissues, watering lid, etc.....peering at the babies having vittles....I really don't know what the long term plan was.....I'm sure we didn't have one....but lucky? for us, one of the boys accidentally left the door to that room open and they "escaped". I would say that our large cat had a very satisfied look on his face, and it's strange that the mice were able to actually knock that box to the floor?? but we don't discuss the incident in THIS family....the official word is, "they escaped".Anyway, kids are grown and gone, so never want to be in the same position again! I'm confident this will be the case. It's not often that the hubby heavily praises something, as he is the mechanic, machinist, over-achiever type, but he insisted I buy more almost immediately, when he was catching mice in this trap and not in his spring traps. Of course, he HATES the damage mice can do, as we ALL do.

Worked right out of the box
OMG! We got these on Friday evening. My husband was too impatient to give a free meal to the rats infesting our yard so he set them the first time out, but gave a few bits of dog food at the opening. Zap! We got one the first night. Then another big one last night! They are going into the same one so he is going to place them closer together under his storage building. I'm truly hoping we don't get a squirrel or rabbit but the rats are not welcome! I would recommend this a thousand times based on our initial results. If it can kill a rat as big as we got last night then it's only a matter of time before we get them all.
