Bion tears for severe dry eyes are absolutely the very best I have ever used. They are no longer available from Alcon so it might be a good idea to see if there is an expiration date. Alcon now makes GenTeal tears for moderate dryness. They are quite good and much cheaper than Bion.

They are not loose in the box, they come wrapped in packs of 5 or 10, (I dont remember). But they are definitely wrapped. Happy I could answer your question

Autologous serum is made from your own blood plasma. It is probably the best thing to use as it cannot harm you and will never be rejected by your system. Bion Tears are artificial tears and are thus given to being problematic for some, particularly those who use the product for years. This said, Bion Tears are one of the top lubricants out there and their lack of preservatives make them far less likely to be painful for those with severe dry eye. My mother has severe Sjogrën's syndrome with no tears at all and no saliva. She has tried every drop on the market and when Bion tears came out she never looked back. She also uses Autologous serum and says that it gives her more comfort than anything off the shelf.

Q: Where were they made?

Alcon tells me they have quit making them and are offering a cheaper although good product. Bion Tears, however, are the best I have ever used. I have severe dryness due to Sjogrens and they seemed to be the only tears that could keep me from severe pain due to dryness. I have found their new product does a good job though.
