Q: Does this require a handset lifter?

Depends on the phone. Some Cisco Phones Require a lifter (Older phones) Some newer phones do the lifting internally and requires a specific interconnect cable such as APC-43 cable. We use 7975 model phones which do require the cable, but no mechaniocal lifter.

Q: Can I answer the phone from the headset?

Yes, you do have on-ear controls for easy access to key call control capabilities, including answer call, end call, reject a call, hold/resume (for multiple calls), mute/unmute, volume up, and volume down.
