NOTE: Not compatible with the GE RPWFE because of the RFID sticker on the side of the filter. Make it work even in a fridge that requires the chip (RPFWE filter)
Works great in our GE refrigerator that requires the RFID chip - just make sure you carefully remove the chip (its on a sticker) from the old filter, and place it in exactly the same spot on the new one. The refrigerator will still think it's the old filter when you stick it back in (i.e., it'll still tell you the filter is 99 days overdue for replacement) but the new non-chip filter will function just fine. Go ahead and screw GE with their filthy money-grab by adding a RFID chip to their water filters for no other reason than to make sure you have to buy a genuine GE-brand filter from GE.

Did the hack so that I can use these to replace the GE RPWFE filters
My refrigerator requires the GE RPWFE filters. The only difference between these filters and the VERY expensive GE RPWFE filters is that the GE RPWFE filters have a little sensor that talks to my refrigerator. It only allows me to use my filter for six months, after that I get a notice to replace the filter. If I don't replace it with a genuine GE RPWFE filter (ridiculously expensive) it will shut my water and ice off completely. So I searched online for a hack and found one. I had to purchase GENERAL ELECTRIC Plug Bypass Rfid Asm (WR17X23645). Then I had to take the sensor off of that and tape it to the inside of my refrigerator. My refrigerator will now accept these generic filters. I no longer get a notice to change my filter, so I have to keep track of that myself. This is a permanent hack, so the next time I need to change my filter, I will not need to purchase both the filter and the bypass filter, I will just purchase one of these. This filter is working fine in my refrigerator. The water tastes the same as the GE RPWFE filter. Once installed, I had to run a gallon or two of water thru the filter to flush out the loose charcoal. It comes out black at first and spews and spits for a few seconds. This is normal and the GE filters did the same thing.I'm pleased with my purchase and will order two next time. I just ordered one this time to make sure it would work and that I would like it.For reference: My refrigerator is the GE Profile stainless Steele with the Keurig option.

Buying my third one of these Instead of the RFID model
I have used two of these over the last year and ordering my third. This filter does a great job. I haven't used the ridiculously expensive GE RPWFE" version in over a year. My fridge came with the GE bypass plug so I just took the RFID sticker off of the bypass and attached to the inside of the filter compartment where it would normally line up. The only con would be the "not filtering" nag on the display. There is also a hack to fix the nag but I'll wait till my extended warranty is up.

Excellent product & responsive customer service
I have been purchasing this filter over the last 3 years and find it to be an outstanding product. I have had no problems with strange taste or color discoloration after installation. The product is solid and the customer service is very responsive. After each purchase I receive an email, confirming my satisfaction and questioning me should I have any concerns. I have no reservation in recommending this product.

It will fit RPFWE.
It will indeed replace the very expensive RPFWE filters but what you need is the bypass cartridge to get the rfid chip that has and tape it to the inside of the filter area. It'll say it's unfiltered but it will be filtered water. Also you won't get the "convenient" countdown to replace your filter but easy fix is just mark it on a calendar or use your phones calendar to remind you in six months to buy another one of these.

NOT compatible with GE Cafe filters
This product will NOT work with a GE cafe fridge that required an RPWFE. I understand that it says it will not in the description, but some of the other user comments suggesting the removal of the RFID chip. That part was easy. What does NOT work is the male end of the filter will not insert into the fridge female end. This may be a fantastic filter - but to reiterate - it WILL NOT work or be alterable to work with GE cafe filters.

Excellent replacement for non-RFID GE filter at half the cost!
Perfect form fit and function at much less cost. Absolutely no problem installing. No leaks. Do as the say and flush out the excess carbon filtering material by running 1-2 gallons through the filter before using it for drinking or cooking water. I intend to buy more every six months.

fits correctly and works great. My fridge has RPFWE type filters
fits correctly and works great. My fridge has RPFWE type filters, I tried this one without the RFID chip and did not work, also tried putting the chip from the old to the new but just still showed it needed changed. Filter was great price, just wish GE would not require you to buy a $50 filter every six months regardless if needed or not. This was a test so try and save some money but didn't work. Still a great product though.
