Q: Does this use small or mini cables? Looks in the description like small, so then would also be compatible with other ChiaoGoo small-size/long needles

Do I have these needles and tried my S cables and they work. Do yes you can use longer cables

Q: How do the blue X-flex cables compare to the red twist cables? Have used the latter extensively and love them, just wondering about new blue ones

I find them very satisfactory; I was able to complete a top down baby sweater, including the tiny sleeves using shorties and blue cables. I was pleased also that they seem to be interchangeable with red cables.

Q: Can they be used to make hats?

Yes, I’m using a 3” and a 2” tip right now, on a hat, because my two 4” tips were too tight fir the hat. Works like a dream

Q: Do these needle sizes come in the red shortie twist?

These are considered the small size needles. The red and the blue cables are made exactly the same. Thin steel cable covered by a vinyl coating. If you are looking for additional cables check Jimmy Beans. They carry several sizes of the blue cables including the 2” to turn your shorties into flexies! Their stock was low but should be replenished soon.
