Q: What's the battery life?

I charge nightly so don't know total longevity , but it easily handles an entire day (i just did long days of go fest and the battery life was awesome).

Q: Can you remove it from the strap like the old one?

Yes, both sides come off, and Amazon has a Keychain holder that it fits in when the straps are removed. I had to buy one when I took the wrong side off, and snapped the plastic piece the strap fits onto.

Q: Is it customary to receive the product in a box with no packing material and the cardboard around the plastic case torn and missing and no invoice?

No. Mine was completely packaged.

Q: Does it stay connected when the app is not in the foreground on the phone?

Yes it does on iPhone, even stays connected and working when phone is locked
