Everyone gets a lunch bag!
I ordered this originally for my husband, who works on a construction site (although inside an office most of the time). He has used a lot of different lunch coolers over the years. I saw this one after the most recent one just didn't hold things well, and thought I'd give it a shot. This product is fantastic. It folds up small (about clutch purse size), and I toss it in the freezer overnight. The entire inside of the bag (all the sides and bottom) are insulated and freeze solid. I pack his lunch at 4:30 am, he drives 30 min to the job site, and lets it sit in his office til lunch. He says it is still cold by lunch, even without putting it in the fridge at work. The inside holds the square Gladware-type of storage containers best, although the rectangles fit too, as do taller containers. For a typical lunch, I'll include a main meal in a square or rectangle container, the toppings or sides in a round 2-cup container or a small rectangle, another 1 cup round container with a snack (eg nuts, popcorn, etc.), plus whatever other sauces or tiny containers are needed. I don't send silverware, although there is a separate pouch that would hold them (he keeps them in his office). At the end of the day, he brings it home, it doesn't smell (as long as he closes the containers after eating), and it's easy to wipe out. I haven't had anything spill enough to stain it (the inside is white), so I can't comment on that. Otherwise, I fold it back up and throw it back in the freezer. SO EASY.As far as cleaning the outside, we haven't had much trouble. His truck is dusty, so the outside of the bag gets soiled, but we have a darker color, so it's not a big deal to clean it off. The handle is durable, and the top of the bag closes securely with velcro to the front of the bag, plus the zipper at the top. After 6 months of use, it is fraying in a few areas around the handle, but nothing I wouldn't expect from pretty heavy duty wear and tear.I would go with the larger version of this bag if you plan on sending anything size-able in it. This is the "large" version, and it's honestly the size of a regular lunch bag. I suspect the smaller bag would be a tight fit for our needs. I do love this so much that I bought a second one for a friend. I will probably buy another one as a backup for when he leaves his empty lunch bag at the office.Anyway, highly recommend this. It is a WAY better option than the other large insulated coolers (eg Yeti, RTIC, Magellan, etc.), and a nice step up from a basic lunch box.

Really works to keep food cold
I've used this lunch pack almost every day for the past year, and I'm so glad that I purchased it instead of some cheaper insulated bag. The PackIt Deluxe is a good size to store my lunch it, and it keeps it cold from 7:30am until when I take my lunch break (usually noon, but sometimes later).I can fit a decent sized food container (medium Rubbermaid Brilliance, 3-cup rectangular Pyrex, or 4-cup round Pyrex), a piece of fruit, a sandwich-sized Ziploc bag of chips, and ziploc with a few cookies, etc., into this bag, and there's still room to spare. A bottle or can of pop also would fit. Even with heavy Pyrex containers in it, the bag feels sturdy, and it has never ripped or had any seam issues.I usually just keep the bag at my desk, and it stays cold for quite a few hours, definitely longer than other bags I've had where I have to use ice packs. The zipper seals the bag shut very well, and it still feels somewhat cold even after I've had it sitting open for an hour while eating my lunch. If I took my food out and then sealed it up again, it would probably stay cold for at least a few hours more.I've also used it to bring a few cold things on car trips of several hours to visit family, and it works well for that purpose too. It's pretty easy to clean if things spill inside, a wipe or two with a soapy paper towel got out the liquid from a stir-fry that spilled. The inside is very waterproof, but sometimes water does condense a little as the bag thaws, so if I bring a napkin or something like that I'll just tuck it in the outside pocket on the back of the bag so it doesn't get damp.Appearance-wise, it's not the prettiest thing while sitting on my desk-- It does seem to "slouch" a bit, but it's way better than trying to fit my lunch in the always crowded break room fridge, and it keeps my food cold on the commute to work. It's so nice to not worry about if my food got too warm. (I just have to remember to put it back in the freezer when I get home!)That being said, it's not bad looking (I got the blue plaid), and it's durability and usefulness has made me a lover of this bag. If it eventually does fall apart or something, I will certainly purchase it again.

My second Packit Bag, needs more freezable surfaces, but does the job for a few hours!
Although my last bag from PackIt (purchased in 2013) kept my food cold for wayyyy longer, I'm still pretty happy with this one. It's not going to perform miracles, and if you're going into a hot environment (you know, the type of weather you need a cooler for in the first place? like the beach?) I wouldn't count on this to keep things cold for more than a few hours, but it's definitely still a nice bag if you don't expect it to work for several hours as I've seen it described here. The gray stripe pattern is visually appealing and the shoulder strap makes this easy to carry as it can be sort of bulky in shape. It also fits a few beverages and multiple food containers which is nice. I took mine to the beach to christen it a couple days ago. It was around 85 degrees that day. Froze it overnight, packed and left by 9:30 am. Had lunch around 1. My food and beverages which had both previously been refrigerated until going into the bag were still reasonably chilled, although I wouldn't say cold. But definitely still safe to eat after 3.5 hours, and again an hour or so later when it was time for another drink. After that, everything was pretty warm despite having kept the bag zipped with the flap down for the entire day. The front, back and bottom of this bag have freezable gel in them, but the sides do not. I think if PackIt were to at least insulate the side panels, or better yet, make their walls freezable gel as well, this bag would be much better and food would stay frozen longer. I do recall that the smaller version I had from 2013 had all sides freezable or at least insulated. Not the same quality, but it does its job for a decent chunk of time. I might actually look into lining the inside of the sides with some sort of insulating material myself to make it work better. Overall, though slightly let down by performance compared to previous versions, I am still glad I made this purchase.

SO HAPPY TO GET RID OF HEAVY ICE PACKS
LOVE THIS LUNCH BOX! This is our third one of the freezeit lunch bags and they take good beating and are very durable. These are imperative for kids in school. I found that using icepacks gets too heavy, left condensation on the inside to get smelly or worse and the ice packs just took up too much room and only cooled what food they touched. SInce we bought these, obviously the entire lunch bag gets frozen so the internal temp stays consistent and the food remains cold well beyond lunch time. I pack lunches for school and summer camp around 6:30AM. I then stick these back in the freezer until we leave the house at 7:30AM, it's not uncommon from any remaining food in lunch box to feel cool to the touch when we unpack them around 5pm. The bag isn't frozen still but it retains the chill all throughout the day.My only complaint is that the handle is on the flap that is only secured with (3) velcro tabs on the fold that covers the zipper....while there is a shoulder strap my kids usually just hold on to the hand held handle which tends to un velcro. They're elementary age so while trying told their backpacks, unfastened lunch box and jackets it's a bit cumbersome but for older children or childrent hat take their time to use the shoulder strap you'll be VERY HAPPY with this lunch bag!

Got a defective one?
I can't tell you a whole lot about this item because I bought it for my 9 year old granddaughter. PackIt has a pretty solid reputation. I was asked by my daughter to order this specific model/brand as she has been using them for several years. She had a high level of confidence with PackIt from previous dealings.. Specifically, although durable, the one time she had a problem, PackIt sent her a new one without question. She had ordered from another online retailer. For whatever reason - This one split at the seems within 2 weeks of being used. In all fairness, it was probably pushed to its limits but, it should have lasted much longer. The kid is pretty rough on stuff and loves to pack these things to 101% capacity so this may have been a factor. I believe it was a defect in the stitching but I'll let them figure it out. I can't find the picture that I took before Amazon replaced it but most importantly, they replaced it within a few days. So, for now, I'm leaving my review open until this new pack (in service for about a week) has had some time on the road. After a month or 2, I will update it to 4 stars if no problems but for now, I'm not overly impressed. Hope this helps you make your decision.7/12/2017 - The replacement one has been in use for an entire school year. Been through the washing machine a few times too. I upgraded my review from 3 to 5 stars. It shows some wear but it should. It's been pounded. Stitching still intact.. 5*

Bag is small, better to get the large size
I bought this bag to take to work. I work 10 hour days in an office environment, and I don't like sharing a common fridge with several dozen other people. I also alternate between a day shift and an evening shift. On evenings, I need to bring a lunch, snack and dinner. I needed a bag that can carry all that. 1) The built-in cold packs are great and they don't add much weight to the bag or take up any extra room. However, they only stay cold for about 4 hours. I have to add extra cold packs to make it through my shift. The extra packs work fine, but they add weight and take away space from the bag. Very disappointing since I bought the bag specifically because I wanted something that could stay cold longer without sacrificing space. 2) Within the first week, one of the seems in the bag pulled free and caused frayed fabric at the edging. A couple of weeks later, this happened in another spot. 3) The large size bag was smaller than I anticipated. If you take several items with you, don't bother with the small size - just go ahead and get the large. 4) The bag takes up very little room in the freezer overnight - a big plus.Overall, this bag will work fine for someone who doesn't bring a lot of food with them and puts their cooler in a fridge once they get to work. Otherwise, I would say skip buying this one. You can get a roomier bag that uses your own cold packs for a lot less money.

Great for keeping Perishables Cold!
I purchased one of these as a Valentine's Day gift for my across-the-street neighbor, Dana, as she told me she was having trouble with keeping her lunch cold when she was out and about. The cool thing about this, literally, is that it actually keeps stuff cold for several hours at a time, compared to other bags. Someday I'm gonna purchase one for me, as when I go on picnics in the summer, I'd like to have fresh food that won't spoil! I bet it will even work as a cooler for chocolate snacks that would otherwise melt when transporting them!

Deluxe large?
I thought it would be as large as my old Packit bag which has the same form. It turned out to be smaller. Other than that it works fantastically well! Everything stays cold for 8 hours.
