Great clock. Fun build.

This kit includes quite a large number of components to solder as well as some unusual soldering tasks such as right angles and lap joints. No instructions are shipped with the kit, but the PDF instructions that can be found online by searching for the model number are surprisingly good. There are a few potentially frustrating steps such as lap soldering the IC breakout board to the back of the motherboard and balancing standoff spacers on posts while inserting the finished board into the case, so I'd recommend having de-soldering tools and a hot glue gun available to ease these tasks. A circuit board clamp is also very helpful given the amount of work you'll be doing on this board. Overall, I found the assembly enjoyable and got quite a lot of soldering practice out of it.The finished product works just fine, although there are a few points worth critiquing. As good as the assembly instructions were, the usage instructions are sorely lacking and it can be frustrating to figure out how to set the clock and/or the alarms (apparently it can store several). The case buttons are not labeled with their functions because the case is actually repurposed from a digital picture frame. The temperature display doesn't seem particularly accurate. The word "Month" on the display is misspelled (or perhaps abbreviated) "Mont" and is oddly smaller than "Year" and "Day" around it, the latter of which is slightly clipped by the frame. It needs a CR2032 battery to keep the time when power is removed, but it doesn't come with one, presumably due to shipping restrictions.All that said, as a soldering kit this impressive, and as a clock it's perfectly functional. I'm happy with the purchase and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants some soldering practice and knows what they're getting into.

ordered three (3) 1227 clock kits --out of these three only (1) would work as should

I have done many many projects. And this one is the worst direction wise. The bord and components are so far awesome but the directions pretty much just show you the bord with all your resisters already in. And so on. But the picture it shows it's very hard to see the colored bands on the resistors to know what goes where. And some of them it like like there is a silver band and None of them have a silver band. If had to unsolder a couple to put a different one in because it's so blurry and i have to use a head set to look closer. Besides the directions i realy enjoy this product and if they make better directions il be ordering many more.

Very poor quality. came with no instruction.
