Overall I enjoyed it, as a fan of the book I felt the spirit was true. Not sure I liked the changes to Mustafa's background and ending, it seemed an unnecessarily glum change. Just my opinion there though. I loved the various animations to the different poems, I wish more of them from the book could have been included. I thought it seemed a bit disjointed at times but not enough to make me dislike it as a whole. It's probably not for people looking for light "cartoon" amusment. Animation does not equal simple child's amusment. This movie is deeper and more thoughtful. As far as it's appropriateness for children it really depends on the child. I wouldn't recommend it for children under 13 in general but I am positive many younger children are out there who would love it. So if you plan on showing it to a child watch it first and decide if it is something said child would enjoy.

I cried at police brutality because I'm a wussy.
This was a lot of poetry, and beautiful animation. Could def show it to kids when you're sick of Disney.

Lovely movie
My boy really loves this art style amd the story. His favorite by the makers is Song of the Sea with the selkies but he said this is number 2 or 3.He related a bit to the daughter.

Good But Not Great
While this adaptation is based on the popular book, it somehow feels unfinished and a little cliche. Perhaps the filmmakers relied too heavily on the international fame of this book and assumed that most of their audience had read it, and so already know the tale. Mostly what you get in this movie is Mustapa's lukewarm 'philosophy' set to music, and animation.I would have liked to see more actual character development and back story, instead of Disney villains and heroes painted wth such broad strokes that you don't really care about them. Also implausible is that an 8 year old girl would understand the concepts Mustapa presents enough to follow him around with such loyalty after one meeting. While the movie is visually lush,it sort of plays like one long music video at times, and was in spots boring. When I rented it,I was pretty sure that I would never actually own it to watch more than once.

Amazing
I have loved this book since I was a teenager. As I grow older it speaks to me more by the year. This movie was beautifully done. The hand drawn animation is stunning. I was moved to tears several times. I believe they did an amazing job of adapting the storyline to be meaningful and weaving Gibran's words throughout. Both of my older kids wanted to read the book when we were done, and my toddler loved it too. As a long time devotee to Gibran's poetry I'm impressed and not disappointed.

The perfect way to bring this Amazing Book to life!!
My mother read this to me all the time when I was little (I'm over 40). The Prophet has been a family favorite my entire life. Having a copy of this book at all times has almost been a requirement. To see this book come to life in full animation and with Liam Neeson's voice is Beautiful!!My Toddler even stays fascinated as long as can be expected. I felt that they did a great job in keeping with eveything about the book.Excellent way to bring this to life!

I'm sure the product was fine but had to return it as the seller said it was a universal non-region product, but in fact it could only be played in America. A full refund including postage was given.

A Great Way To Introduce Animation and Philosophy To Young Audiences
It's a very unique film.Essentially, the story is from the perspective of the girl (a misunderstood troublemaker with a single mother), and introduces a wise poet and artist held in confinement by the country's government for his radical messages. The poet is escorted through the land towards the harbor where he is told he will be finally sent home. During the course of this journey, he speaks to the townspeople his words of wisdom and advice, spiritual food for the soul (in English, spoken by Liam Neeson). These spoken poems are depicted visually through animated short films and sometimes songs, each with a very unique animated style by some of the world's most celebrated animators. The story is lighthearted and full of humour, but feels meaningful with the mentioned content above (think a Disney movie if it contained semi-religious overtones). Most of the film is animated in 3D CG to mimic traditional animation, and it certainly ruins the effect, but watching the included making-of videos makes you appreciate the attempt this time. The songs included in this "musical" are beautiful, but a little too literal to what the character says seconds prior. The biggest draw is the collection of animated shorts, some of which stand-out as incredible pieces without the rest of the movie, making this like a short-film anthology with an overarching storyline to seem less random. So it's not perfect, but there is a lot to appreciate in this movie. And it's a great way to introduce different styles of animation, art and philosophical thinking to young minds.
