This best thing about this book is that it is very exact in explaining everything. Only thing i didn't like is that the book is less descriptive which is justified considering that the book is made with exam perspective.

It is a good book for both beginner and intermediate technical people. The author has presented the examples intuitively, making it easier to remember the points.

I brought under after reading the reviews, what they don't tell you is that the actual book only contains references to diagrams which are not printed in the book so for example you get page 398 line"structure as shown below:compiling-a-module-moduletestXaftercompilation.XdirXstruct.png"So in essence when they say look at the diagram - there isn't one or any??????????.

After many years of Java programming I decided it was time to get my Java certification. I have worked through this book and have to say I was very pleased with it. Not only was it a good guide to what's in the part 1 exam I also learned a lot of things that maybe I should have already known or maybe had forgotten. The author has a very readable writing style and explains things very well. The book doesn't include practice quizes itself but obviously these are available elsewhere.

All the information that you need is in the book. It’s just very unclear at times. Using examples like “foo” “bar”, or class A class B class C, quite often makes it extremely difficult to actually follow along. I know it’s what the exam will do but to understand concepts it makes it extremely difficultMy other annoyance with this book is how the code is setup. There are a multitude of code examples throughout the book and thats fantastic. it helps. The problem is where the first two lines of code are on the one page and on the back side is another portion, then two pages later it adds more code. Flipping between all the pages makes it near impossible to follow.Overall, the book is very helpful. It does bring to light many topics and discusses them in enough detail to get the main concepts. You will need to do your own research on topics that this book breezes over slightly but are extremely important to the exam. A prime example is this book doesn't go into any detail about the switches used while write command line java (ex: javac -d out --module-source-path src-- -m out -m and many more). All of these were on the exam in some sense but were very quickly mentioned with no detail, and for an almost 450 page book you'd hope it would cover everything. Overall, I'm glad I bought the book, it put me in the right direction and was key to me passing. Just don't assume by buying this book you'll breeze through the exam.
