Wow! This device changed my life.
I bought this light box and also the smaller version (Aurora LightPad). I liked this one, the Max, better than the other one (hereafter referred to as the Mini). However, I ended up returning this one and keeping the Mini. All in all, both of these light boxes are excellent and I highly recommend them and light therapy for people with seasonal affective disorder. Using these light boxes has changed my life, I look forward to using them for many years to come.Pros:* It works! I experienced relief the first day I used this device. It took several weeks to enjoy the full effect, but I started to feel better immediately.* This light box doesn't get hot. The back will get very warm, but not hot, and when you sit in front of it you won't feel warmth radiating off of it.* It's very bright and has the longest working distance (30") of any light box I've found.* The lights will last a very long time so I don't need to replace them* The light that it generates is very nice. It's bright but seems less harsh than the light cast by the Mini.Cons:* This light box is compact compared to older style suitcase-size boxes, but it's not quite small enough. Specifically, it's quite thick and it weighs about 2.5lbs. Between the size and weight I was not able to find a stand that could hold this lightbox up at an appropriate height and angle for optimum effectiveness. Though the light surface area is about the size of a very large tablet, it's much thicker and heavier than a tablet which means that it won't work with pretty much any stand that is designed to hold a tablet. The built-in stand (a kickstand on the back) might work if you have a shelf in just the right place, but I don't. I was able to find a stand that works well with the Mini.* I had a hard time working the on/off and brightness adjustment on this device. On/Off and brightness levels are all controlled by the button on the front center of the device. One morning I didn't find out until the end of my session that the brightness was not set correctly. At that point it was too late to fix it. The device does not remember it's brightness setting from one session to the next, so you need to set it correctly each time you use it. All in all, I would much prefer having two switches, one for on/off and one for brightness. I found the button difficult to use in part because you need to be able to find it without looking at the device (even on it's lowest setting, it's too bright to look at). Invariably this meant blindly finding the right or left side, then the bottom left or right corner, and then working my hand across the front until I found the button (this takes a lot of hand or you might miss the button completely and end up on the other side of the device). I found the button on the Mini which works in exactly the same way a bit easier to use, possibly in part because the device is much smaller.* The cord should be longer. The cords for the Max and the Mini are the same length, both of them are too short. Specifically, both cords include a large transformer box and the distance between that box and the device is too short.I only recently found out that I have seasonal affective disorder. These are the first light boxes I've owned. Many years ago my parents suggested that they thought I had seasonal affective disorder but the size and cost of light boxes available at that time meant that I didn't get one. I'm very grateful that Alaska Northern Lights has developed these excellent products that provide relief that is effective, accessible, and reasonably affordable.

An upgrade from my old 10,000 LUX fluorescent light box
I live in Alaska at 61.5 N. Right now, in late November, we have less than 6.5 hours of day of low angle daylight. The sun doesn't come up until after 9:30 AM right now, and will rise just before 10:30 AM on our shortest day. I find I really need bright light to get me going when it's this dark out most of the time. For the past 25 years, I've been using a 10K LUX light box for about 30 minutes every morning from late September until early March. The ballast was broken on my old large, heavy fluorescent box when I turned it on this fall, though, so I started shopping for replacements. I knew none would be cheap because the fluorescent box cost about $150 in late 1990 dollars. The Northern Lights LED LightPad Max provides the same intensity of light as my old fluorescent box, but is: 1) far lighter, 2) easier to store, 3) turns on to full intensity immediately (fluorescent bulbs need to warm up for a few minutes), 4) uses far less electricity than a fluorescent, 5) does not emit dangerous UV light, so needs no shield to protect my eyes, 6) is likely to last far longer than a ballasted fluorescent light, and, finally, 7) is sold by a company with excellent customer service. They even spent time helping me troubleshoot my old fluorescent box, offering solutions that would have earned them far less in sales than the LightPad Max I ultimately bought. As a SAD light user living in a location where light is really needed during normal morning hours, I can highly recommend this device.

GREAT LIGHT. FUTURE IS SO BRIGHT!
It is really bright and will help you reset your circadian rhythms and Ward off the blues. The only caveat is that on the backside, the stand can get knocked off.Functionally the light is excellent. And they are one of the most well-reputed brands.

Best Sun lamp!
This Sunlamp is amazingly powerful! I used to own a Verilux Happylight, 10,000 lux, which now looks like a very dim light in comparison to this. This lamp is expensive but truly the only one worth buying. If your buying a lesser lamp and it doesn’t work for you, you don’t know if it’s light therapy that doesn’t work or if it just wasn’t a powerful enough lamp.My only issue was not having a stand for it. When placed on a table I would get a bit of eye strain and the angle just doesn’t mimic sunlight. Take a look at my pictures for how I created my own stand for $23.I used a reptile lamp stand for a table (BOURDSERK Reptile Lamp Stand,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091NBDSB2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). Then I was able to easily attach a few zip ties to the back after popping off the stand parts that come on the lamp (these parts can be put back on, they are not broken). The base of the reptile lamp stand does need extra weight added (I used a 10lb plate weight) to avoid tipping over when you hang the sun lamp on it. And then perfection! It also stores away very discreetly between my couch and side table so when it’s not in use you don’t see it.

Very good, but may require modifying
Have been using this light consistently for just over a month. As advertised, I feel I have more energy, improved mood, and feel more appropriately tired at bedtime.I especially appreciate this light is LED instead of fluorescent so no concerns about lights breaking and leaking mercury as with other models.Only drawback is difficulty in placing the light above my eyes. I took suggestion of another reviewer and bought a large reptile light stand and attached it at appropriate angle with zip ties. Kind of a hassle and it looks crude, but it did the trick. If you’re thinking about bright light therapy, I recommend doing a good a long of research to find the solution that works best for you.
