Learning in Adulthood: A Comprehensive Guide 4th Edition

This is the text book in use for the EdD course in Adult Learning Strategies. So yeah, it's very informative and dense with good information.

Excellent book to understand and learn about Adult education.

I purchased this for a graduate course textbook in Adult Learning Theory. It has been difficult and, at times, disappointing because it feels like the authors are more interested in cramming in as many references to other texts, journal articles, and authors as possible rather than just explaining the various adult learning theories. It's not at all uncommon to have every chapter stuffed with paragraphs that read "ABC author says blah blah blah and DEF says blah blah while GHI says blah blah blah....." and on and on. I mean, I completely understand the need to give credit where credit is due, but this text really overdoes that. It makes me wonder if the authors themselves have any original thoughts on any of these topics?It has been a very disappointing textbook for a topic I was really looking forward to learning about. Plus, I found several spots on the book where there had been changes from the previous edition, but the editors clearly did not read closely, because sentences would just end without completing a thought, or switch topics in mid-paragraph, etc. It was clearly a very botched editing job.I would not recommend this at all for the lay person who wants to read up on adult learning theory. You'll be completely frustrated.

This is a required book for my class and I'm increasingly frustrated with it. Citation after citation without any real ideas or thought being expressed. Lack of clarity is a huge problem as well as a terribly inconsistent and awkward writing style. I can't imagine anyone reading this without being forced to.

This book has no flow, the information is extremely difficult to comprehend. There are so many citations they begin to become a distraction and actually a nuisance. I just read, or tried to read, two chapters and I got nothing out of it. There is no actual teaching or examples, just constant citations. Thank goodness for the chapter summaries at the end, at least I can learn a little for my class.

I agree with the review above. If you're interested in learning theory without any information on real-world application, this is probably the book for you. It's a painful read, and following the train of thought in this book has been difficult at best.

I would agree with many of the other reviews. This book is awful to read. Incredibly dense and dry. No connection or engagement. I was pinching myself to stay focused and desperately trying to follow.
