Can the battery be removed by an intruder?

Hello,

Great question! The outside portion of Door View Cam is attached to the inside portion (where the battery is housed) of it through the viewer in the door. There isn’t a way to remove it without disassembling it from the inside of your home or breaking the device. If a thief does manage to remove it, Ring has a Theft Protection policy in place. Simply send a copy of the police report to theft@ring.com and Ring will replace the device free of charge.

I have a glass storm door.  will this prevent the ring door view cam's motion detection from working?

Hello,

Doors that close in front of Door View Cam, like screens and storm doors, can have an impact on Door View Cam's functionality. Glass doors usually let you see the camera's view, but you will need to turn off the night vision LEDs in the device settings, or the glass door will reflect them back into the camera, obstructing its view. Metal and mesh screens may partially or fully obstruct the camera's view and may also reflect the night vision LEDs. If Motion Detection is enabled, most outer doors will also prevent motion from being detected by Door View Cam until the outer door is opened.

My door has no existing peephole. Can this be installed without a peephole?

Hi,

The Ring Door View Camera does require an existing door viewer or peephole to install this particular device.

Ring does not recommend making permanent changes to your home's existing door in order to install this Door View Camera but we do have a full line of Video Doorbells with similar functionalities that can be set up easily in any home environment if you do not have an existing peephole drilled. How long will the battery last before needing to be recharged?

There really isn't a single correct answer because it really depends on your settings. The more settings are in use, the more battery it will use.
When you set it only as a doorbell cam, and it's only active when someone rings the doorbell, you're using the minimum battery power and can last for a more than a month depending on your doorbell traffic.
However, I have many functions set for my Ring Peephole Camera. Night vision, motion alerts, recording, etc plus I use liveview frequently when there are noises outside. My peephole camera is active 20-30 times a day just due to neighbors coming and going across the front of my door and my liveviews.
My battery lasts for about 2 weeks.
But I did research before I purchased my Ring Peephole Camera and found that the battery takes several hours to recharge so I opted in for a spare battery when I bought mine. I've made it a habit to swap in a freshly charged battery every Wednesday morning and recharge the used battery at the same time so I always have a fully charged battery standing by. The battery swap take just a few seconds and it reboots the Ring Peephole Camera which is usually back online in just a minute or 2. That's instead of being offline for hours while the battery recharges.

So how long does the battery last? It depends on your settings. The more work you put on the camera, the faster it will use the battery.
