Good Value Little Roberts Radio
This is an ideal bedside or casual use radio. Runs on AA batteries, but also has input for a 6v supply from the mains, which is not supplied, but readily available online. They should mention this. Also has a headphone socket.Big advantage is it can be put anywhere, and will work on batteries during power cuts.Just three wavebands. FM LW, and MW. but good value for £20Good sound quality, but. don't expect too much from it by way of volume. No tone control, but this is not needed. No pre-sets either, but manual tuning is easy, because as soon as it hits a strong channel it locks on, so no drift and no fiddling around to get it spot on.Excellent finish and workmanship.

Whistle on the longwave.
I get a whistle on the longwave. I can only get the longwave in my bathroom and if I take the radio to any other room in the house, the Radio 4 signal is just washed out by electronic noise. So, I don't know if this whistle is caused within the radio itself or if it is on the carrier signal that brings Radio 4 program to the radio. I just grin and bear this whistle because the radio which this radio has replaced had permanent electronic noise over the program so it wasn't pleasant trying to follow a program on the old radio, hence my replacing it with this new radio. I am in a very, very poor signal area.

don't rely on the brand name
ROBERTS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A RELIABLE MAKE OF RADIO. No longer. I was not happy about there being no mains lead- battery only. But I like LW so bought two of these. Sadly, they are very poor radios. Two main faults- the tuning knob is very sloppy and difficult to settle on a station. Also, when you've tuned in an FM station, the radio decides to drift off elsewhere - most annoying when it's across the room or in the garden when you've mucky hands.I very nearly returned these, but the price is good and the above problems don't apply on LW, so I kept them- battery consumption seems quite high too- really not worthy of Roberts of years ago

Radio
Nice to find retro radio you can tune. Happy with look. Reception and performance. Managed to get all stations required even in bad reception areas.

Battery life not great
If you want a radio and can rely on a mains power supply its an OK radio. I needed a radio to work of batteries. I chose Roberts because my old radio I have had since 1999 was Roberts. My old radio was transistor based, took 2 AA batteries and lasted several months before I needed to replace the batteries. This radio takes FOUR AA batteries and I was replacing them every week or two with the same usage. I have had to resort to rechargables and now don't get even a week out of a set of batteries. I've lived with this radio for a year now and am just starting to have problems with the volume control. At low volumes it is crackly when changing volumes and at my usual listening levels it is hit of miss whether I get any sound. I either have to tap the volume control or play the radio louder than I would like. I am not listening in a dusty environment - this seems like wear and tear. On the plus side it seems solid enough and the sound on FM is good. My old Roberts has been dropped more time than I can remember, the case is broken, I broke the aerial and soldered a wire in its place; it still works and I use it in my garage (it just looks awful). Unlike my old radio, I don't think I will be keeping this one for twenty years.

Great little radio!
This is a really great little radio! For it's size the sound quality is good and I am very pleased with it - it was just what I wanted and the price was reasonable too.
