Works great as a nightlight!
I purchased this for my toddler's bedroom to replace his nightlight. He was constantly pulling it out of the wall and it was making me crazy. It was very easy to install and looks nice. It is not as bulky as it appeared to be in photos. There are several settings for the light -emergency, bright, and very bright. There is a difference between the two brightness settings. My sons room is 11x12, which is relatively small. Even the less bright setting is very bright in his room. It would probably be too bright for my liking, but he does not seem to mind. We both like that it automatically turns on when its dark. They are a good value. I will probably buy more in the future for the bathroom and hallway. The lights are LED, so I don't have to worry about high costs or the lights emitting heat.

Great nightlight
I needed a night light that my 1 year old couldn't pull out of the wall, was bright enough to see all the way down the hallway, but not so bright that it was blinding at night. This unit, when set to the dimmer of the two settings, achieves exactly what I set out to do. My son hasn't yet discovered the switch, and seemed to lose interest very quickly, unlike the old night light that he would always go for and rip out of the outlet. The light, on the dimmer setting, is perfect to be able to see without completely ruining your night vision or keeping you awake with light. The sensor is a good balance, not too sensitive that it is on all day, but it doesn't wait until it is pitch black to turn the light on. If anything it is a little too sensitive, coming on a bit early, but since it is LED I'm not concerned about this at all. I prefer it coming on too early than too late.It installed very easily and worked right away.

Very nice at first
I installed the items to illuminate our stairway. Very nice at first. So much so I would have given them five stars .. and considered buying more down the road. But 10 days later they all stopped working. No breaker problems. One of them maintains the PF (power failure capability) but all of them lost the 'night' light capability. Strange. I would have thought for the price they would have lasted longer. Disappointed.

Would be great if it didn't look like a strobe light.
There is clearly an issue with the darkness sensor. I ordered the first one and the thing looked like a strobe light when the room was at it's darkest. I got a replacement and and it acted the same way. I was able to isolate the problem by putting a small piece of solid colored tape over the sensor. It worked perfectly but was unable to turn off automatically when it was daytime. This was the same with both units. Kind of sucks but I needed a bright enough nightlight for my daughter what is potty training. Also wanted something that the little ones could not pull out of the wall. Due to the design it fit the criteria but the sensor is just horrible. Don't want my kid to have a seizure so I just keep the tape on it and deal with it. Too bad. Dad great potential to be an awesome product.

> DOES THE JOB
IN SHORTThink of it as a "permanent" night light with a limited emergency lighting function---with the caveat that they have a short service life---I've had to replace 3. None have lasted more than a year.DESCRIPTION> 3 ½" X 5" X ½" (with a bulge 3/4" thick from the wall)> The Capstone Light will work if you just plug it into a wall socket, but in that case the plugs extend 3/8" into the wall socket and will not hold well. You need to remove the wall plate and install the Capstone light with the supplied screws for the best installation.> Therefore it fits only 2-socket outlets (i.e., not 4 or 6 plug outlets---but those are rare in most homes).> You could install it in an outlet with 1 outlet socket and 1 light switch. However such setups are usually installed with the switch on top. If the switch is on top, you have to install the Capstone light upside down---but that works just fine, and does not look odd.> The Capstone Light switch has 4 positions: "Off"; "emergency light off"; "lo nightlight"; "hi nightlight". I don't know what the difference is between the "off" and "emergency light off" positions are. Both nightlight settings are also emergency light "on" (in case of a power failure).> As supplied, works with "old fashion" outlets with semi-round sockets. You have to remove an insert and two small plugs fr0om the Capstone Light to use with "modern" square outlets, including those with Ground Fault Protection. The instructions are not clear on how to remove the insert.PROS> Easy installation.> A good design for a night light---throws most light up and down the hall, and in front; not up> Hi/Lo nightlight function.> Automatically turns on if there is a power failure.> Uses LED bulbs, so little power used.> Low profile, mostly extending only ½" from the wall, so does not get in the way, and is unlikely to be bumped.> Semi-permanent installation means that it a bump will not cause it to fall off the wall.> One short, two long screws provided for each light.CONS> Claims only "up to" 3 hours emergency light. But actually much less after a few months, as the rechargeable batteries loose capacity over time. If you are at home and awake, you have time to find your flashlight (or other portable emergency lighting). If you are asleep (or not home) when the power fails, you could wake up to (or come home to) no emergency lighting.> There is little difference between "Hi" and "Lo".> Uses 1 outlet socket.> Blocks the other outlet socket for battery chargers or plug-in-the-wall power bricks. I actually find this the most serious shortcoming, since the Capstones block all the "prime" locations in my home for chargers. Nor can I plug in the power brick for my little Ikea desk lamp.> Since you have to install it with screws, you cannot use it as a portable emergency light.> Doesn't quite match "white" wall sockets which have a slight warm cast, since the Capstone light is slightly bluish gray. It looks white by itself, but not so much when next to anything that is truly white. But, few people will notice the difference.> Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews, or leave a comment to ask questions.

Nice light but the price was steep and it takes up one of the wall plugs. Both things that I knew before purchasing.

These were a nice find and so far have been working great and can be quite bright. We use them as nightlights, on low, between the kid's bedrooms and their bathroom. Also, one inside the bathroom since it doesn't have any windows. We can never find a flashlight that works during a power outage, so I like that we'll be able to safely walk around the house or find an exit should the power go out.The one outlet that is left accessible is recessed quite a bit. This makes it appropriate for plugging in something like a vacuum cleaner or lamp, but you can't plug in anything that is flushmount like a Carbon Monoxide detector. Also, you cannot plug in anything with even a medium-sized DC adapter (like our bathroom scale) without it hanging awkwardly.
