Teknikio Activating Origami Set

This box is a fantastic idea. The execution of the idea? Definitely not fantastic. First of all, the instructions about circuits are poorly written. The information is good, it is just poorly expressed for the type of person who would buy this box (a beginner). Also, the instructions for making a "Crane Lantern" are cut off, literally, mid-sentence, and the rest of the sentence is about animating the penguin! No kidding - next to the drawing of a Crane with an LED light inserted, it says, "Once you have folded your origami crane, figure out where you want to place your Motionboard and place 2 parallel pieces of conductive tape on your penguin..." The motionboard is not used in the Crane! At no point do the instructions for making a "Crane Lantern" instruct you on how to actually make the Crane light up using the LED light, battery and conductive tape. One of the drawings does show what it could look like, and the instructions about how the LED has a long and short leg for + & - does help so maybe a person can just figure it out themselves. Otherwise they can go to YouTube and type in "origami" and "LED" and put something together, because the Teknikio web site doesn't have instructions either. I looked and even the stuff for STEM educators was extremely light.Very few supplies are included, indicating that this is intended to be just for beginners. Because of that, it seems cruel that the instructions are so poor, because a beginner would really need good instructions, right? It has only enough supplies to make 2 items work - there are a few more pieces of extra paper if you want to practice folding or if you make mistakes. But if you want to make more with motion or LED, you will have to purchase additional supplies separately, which you could have done to begin with.I just can't recommend this box to anyone.

my aunt is an extreme origami enthusiast so i knew this would be a perfect gift for her. she has often said she wants to try something new and different with her origami and this was just the thing. she built beautiful light up paper sculptures and some awesome little samurai robot that move around! so cool! she said she shared it with her origami loving friends and they all ordered one immediately. this is a perfect kit for anyone interested in trying something new with origami

While the idea of this origami set it great it only comes with instructions to make the penguin. I bought this for my 8 year old daughter who is interested in,but is new to origami. She was hoping for a more comprehensive instruction book with alternate ideas.(or at least instructions for the origami they show on the box) After much searching online we found instructions for what she wanted to make and we figured out how to attach the lights ourselves. We enjoyed using the parts in the set but could just as easily have bought a pack of origami paper and the other components separately.

It's a neat idea, but the idea was better than the reality. Worked OK, but after the first few minutes of folding, there wasn't much else to do.

My middle school kid had a hard time putting this together.

I bought this set for my 4 year old to complete. This kit was easy to follow and provides instructions on how to make the dancing penguin. There is enough material here to make lots of origami sculptures. My kid wanted to make the dancing penguin first, which is in the included instructions. I helped her connect the motherboard and battery and she LOVED watching the penguin dance on the table. Afterwards, she wanted to continue to make origami sculptures, so all we did was just go online to the many wonderful youtube/google sites on folding whatever origami shape you like! This is a great set that really does provide hours of fun! The motherboard, batter holder, and paper connectors are reusable so once you are done, you can remove and move to your next sculpture. The possibilities for creativity are endless, which is great with this STEAM kit!

I teach origami and spent years writing science activities for children I found this product a disappointment. If the child has not folded a model in the past there would be problems following directions. The paper fasteners will not go through the conductive tape. The movement of the model is just a vibration of the material. Nothing moves! We are given LED's with no directions of use or operation.

Quality iffy for the price........After reading glorious reviews I went for this as a gift to my grandson who is very good at origami.The package arrived with broken seals and seemingly crushed at one side.I opened the box and found everything intact, but the quality paper was not only flimsy but washed out colors. 2 white sheets, beige, etc.If you purchase you are buying the light up components.Would not buy again.
