JanSport Big Student, Sunset Stripe, One Size

I love Jansport bags! I purchased mine at another store and my daughter fell in love with it. Though I offered it to her multiple times, she refused. I found the exact one here on Amazon ( though Wwaaayyy over the price I originally paid for mine) I don’t regret it. Spacious and durable with plenty of pockets! I use it for work and travel. 4 stars only because I haven’t been in a predicament where I can say it’s waterproof, but I love it!

So, I had a Jansport backpack that lasted me from middle school through the years I used it as a diaper bag for my oldest child. Now that oldest child is entering high school (!) and I've gotten her this Jansport big student backpack and fully expecting the same sort of quality that lasted me years. The main difference between this bag and the old school Jansport backpacks is that this is the "big student" design, which comes with a lot more compartments. However, I think the main inner compartment is actually smaller than the old school Jansport style, bc this bag divvies it up between a main compartment and a flat laptop compartment which goes right against your back. Unfortunately, I do not find the padding on this back compartment sufficient protection for a laptop (especially when compared with other brands of laptop backpacks I've owned) unless you are extra careful with your bag or if your laptop already has a protective cover/case.The other major difference is that the netting of the side water bottle compartment seems to be made of a hard nylon rather than a soft fabric typical of children's backpacks. Hopefully this will mean that it's more durable from tearing, but that will remain to be seen.The fabric on the very bottom of this bag seems thinner than my old school Jansport backpack (mine had a brown leather bottom whereas this sunset bag has the same fabric all over) and it's almost translucent when you hold it up to the light. However, I have confidence that the fabric will hold just fine and it's backed by Jansport's lifetime warranty.The zippers are all heavy duty metal and the back straps are well padded and ergonomically curved. The fabric stripe design is only on the front and bottom, the back is solid black. Also, the product photo makes it look almost pink and white striped. However, in person, it's actually a light pink (almost orange-y tint) and dark pink stripe. My daughter still likes it. And I actually like that the design will likely camouflage dirt and wear and tear very well.The only other criticism is really a wishlist item. I wish that there was an additional shallow compartment *inside* the main compartment, or perhaps on the side of the backpack you wear against your back, where you can put your cell phone or wallet. The shallow compartment at the front of the bag is easily accessible, but it's also not very secure and you can easily have your valuables pick-pocketed from it. I would end up putting my valuables in the main compartment of this bag, but then it will fall to the bottom amongst the books and folders, which makes it annoying to have to dig out every time you want to check your phone.All in all, I'd give this bag four and a half stars.If you have any questions or found my review helpful, please let me know!

The colors pop on this one!!! I buy school supplies for Kids in Central America and was able to get three of these. They are big and roomy and the zippers are smooth! Love it. (165 kids have gotten backpacks and school supplies as of January 2021!)

Large bookbag with functional pockets. Fits everything I need!

I use this daily! It holds all of my work folders, gym clothes and miscellaneous items I need with me everyday! Very well made and very pretty!
